First Grow - Dorm Grow Box

Hey guys,

i am growing a purple pine clone (GDP x Pineapple express 60/40) in FoxFarms ocean soil or something. its currently under two 23watt CFls, due to heat i had to take out my two other tubes and another CFl. i am ordering a bigger fan today though, so that in the next week or so i can get another 80 watts or so in there.

i water it every other day, with 6.0 ph water with some super thrive in it.

what do you guys think about the white dots on the leaves in the two pictures, or the dried up tips from early days of the veg stage on the bottom of the plant?

Re: first grow, dorm grow box

Well the purple stems could be either genetics or P deficiency; the burnt brown edges of the leaves look like over fertilized and dunno bout the white spots. Also the plant in the first pic looks stunted; seems like it should have more branches for the size of those fans. What's the n-p-k value of the superthrive your using? I've never used it but i was just reading another problem plant thread and she's also using superthrive except waaaay more worse than yours…o and how many weeks are your plants? :hmmmm:

Re: first grow, dorm grow box

well, its been a bit of a roller coaster. first i started with a few of these guys, in cubes and had them in hydroton. but it wasnt going too good so i moved this one into soil, it is the only one that made it. so i am guessing that is why it is/looks stunted. but since, it has grow a few inches in the last two weeks, virtually all the leaves you see but three have came up in the last 9 days.

Re: first grow, dorm grow box

You can try watering with a PH of 6.5 and see if this helps. Ocean Forrest soil PH ranges between 6.3 and 6.8........So maybe try watering between these numbers. I see what looks to be some nute burn in your photo's but more deficiency then anything, which I believe is directly related to a PH problem. So basically your plant looks like its getting to much of one nutrient and not enough of another. How long has the plant been in the soil? Have you measured the PH of your run off?

Also try letting her go one more day between watering. Do you spray the leaves, cause it looks like mold in the one pic.

Try not to over love her.

Re: first grow, dorm grow box

ya at first the ph was too high and had too much superthrive so it burned it early on. i got my ph in the low 6's so i think its ok. now i got the lights turned off from 12-6 during the day when its too hot (temp problems) so i can keep a third light on her.

Try not to over love her.

ya i know.. its tough when your a newbie

thanks guys

Re: first grow, dorm grow box

I would stop watering for a while.....and monitor your environment....cause thats what causes your purple stems...the time your lights are out....i think she get to cold....shes not happy.....

Ya thanka vannelle i was thinkin the same. I live in a very hot/dry environment so thats why i use the box to control the humidity. But i think because the lights would go out at night, and so the temp would drop from high 70's to mid 60's. I changed the six hours of sleep from 12-6 pm now though so temps should be more stable. Ill update with some pictures later..

Thanks guys!

got the third cfl back in there, temps are 72-80 at all times now with 41% rh.

i think the purple stems may be genetics, because when i got the clones the stalk was purple on all of them

Re: first grow, dorm grow box

when its powdery mildew he has to clean his whole box....plant out treat it....treat box...plant in....dont spray with light on.....we in holland use soemthing diff....but i dont think you will be able to get it.....so research sns 244 ...... dont just spray....and certainly not when your light s are on.....but overall your plant looks nice.....i still think the stems are a indication of not feeling happy....
we want a steady environment....feed is a later concern.

Re: first grow, dorm grow box

Great start - Dorm Grow you say, very interested how this turns out - Soil Fox Farm is what I started with. No need to water so much. Only 1 drop of superthrive should do it. Don't over do it, although I don't think you can burn from superthrive - (correct me if I'm wrong) No need to feed any nutes for awhile - Looks good to me, Everyone starts somewhere.

Mind if I ask what type of dorm your in / roomates? I lived in a dorm and now that I know what I know, I coulda grown ez in a micro environment. If you want to learn any LST (Low stress training) techniques specifically for Micro grows and maximizing your grow area in a tiny space - check out my grow's. Peace dude - sub'd

Re: first grow, dorm grow box

Wowowow how fast should i treat this? i can go get the stuff by today, but what is the stuff i need called?

The stuff is called Sierra Natural Science 244 fungicide. SNS is a sponsor of 420Magazine. It works great for me and is safe on plants. Also a fan or two would help in ventilating the box. :peace:

Re: first grow, dorm grow box

do you just spray it on?? ya there two pc fans, one exhaust and one intake. but i still had heat troubles with only 3 lights so i am getting a 240 cfm axial to add onto the intake.

Re: first grow, dorm grow box

called the local hydro shop, they have pm wash or green cure. reading about it it seems like most sprays only supress it, it might be too late for them?

Re: first grow, dorm grow box

NO, not to late. Mix 1/2 of a teaspoon of baking soda in a pint of water, shake well and spray the affected areas. then call SNS and they will give you a sample for free. Now I buy SNS 244 by the gallon. try my recipe first then call SNS. :goodjob: :peace:

Re: first grow, dorm grow box

the pm seems to be gone for the most part, but now we got another problem. i got two new clones, ill post pictures of them later, but for now, i will post the picture of their leaves, something is spreading pretty quickly. they're in a completely different room (my buddies) so i dont think it is pm because it looks a bit different
