The little boy who was a symbol in the battle to legalize medical marijuana in Montana is the star of a new documentary that is about to premier in Missoula.
Missoula's Cash Hyde lost his battle with brain cancer last fall when he was just four years old, and at the time was the youngest medical marijuana care holder in the nation.
The movie focuses on use of a controversial cannabis oil that the Hydes believe was pivotal in their son's cancer treatment. A change in state law made it harder for the family to get the drug.
Cash's father Mike hopes the film will bring more awareness in the fight against cancer and alternative treatments.
"Cashy's the star of the show. I was just the one that helped get his story out there, so really it's all about Cashy and Cashy's battle against cancer, and the hardships he went through in his short little time on this Earth," Mike Hyde explained.
American Drug War 2 will be shown at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday at the Wilma in Missoula.
Mike Hyde recently decided to enter the political ring, tossing his hat into the race for mayor in Missoula.
