Figuring out light

get a good reflector,so you can push some of your light down into the plant, other wise you it will be very sparse and the bottom wont do much I have 9 CFL'S with mirror like reflectors in a 48x48 area my plants love it :peace:

Does 50W/sq ft apply to both the vegetative and flowering phase if you switch from MH to HPS?

height = 60cm or ~24" (2ft)
width and depth = 30cm or ~12" (1ft)

So I think that means my box is 2 square feet (2 x 1).

Only if you turn your box on its side ;). The area of your box is one square foot (two cubic feet of volume).

Does 50W/sq ft apply to both the vegetative and flowering phase if you switch from MH to HPS?

30+ HID watts per square foot for vegetative
50+ HID watts per square foot for flower
For CFLs "up to 2x"
YMMV, of course.

i wanna grow 3 plants with cfl lights what are good lights for vegging and flowering or could i use da same for both

Hwugh!!! That doesnt sound good. Is this going to be enough room to grow any type of plant other than a lowryder/dwarf plant?

When I saw the box Im using I automatically thought "that looks bigger than a pc" and Ive seen people (youtube) have alot of success in pc's.

all depends on what the individuals doing. how they are doing it and what they are using to accomplish it. strains are very different. ive had plants that reach the 7' mark in my basement. not good for me because i use only 430 watts of light. the bottom 1/2 of the plant suffers from the lack of light.
ive learned to cut it as it grows so the energy the plant puts out isnt wasted on a branch i going to cut anyways.
there r many ways to deal with the issues you will encounter. you will be just fine from what i canm see!

plant never gets cut in the flower stage. EVER!
youd think huh! less light means less cannabis.
the plant is trained during the veg state that its a part of life to be cut. very little is cut at 1 time. i believe stress kills! when lower branches get less light they will in turn create less bud in every way. this makes the entire plant suffer. trying to get the lower branches to grow steals energy from the upper half. when your using low watt bulbs this effect is compounded. the end result is a bummer all the time, unless your growin squatty tiny leaf plants.
just my experience.
plants thrive with heat, not to much but they will absorb more neuts. with a higher temp. keep the root ball off the floor. always elevate or heat the root ball. careful with the heat it is easy to overheat the root ball. plenty of air movement is a must!

never let anything sit on the floor! unless you have temps that are condusive to growing. a cool root ball will slow the entire process down! like you wouldnt believe!!
the root ball is in the bucket or what ever you use for a container. hydro or soil it doesnt matter. the root mass or root ball needs love to, when i grow i do not care about what i can see, green plant growth. what i do care about is the root system or root ball the white root ball when i transplant. the roots should be as white as snow with tiny little hair like features. this denounces a good root system for growing whats up top! after the 3rd transplant is when i care about the green growth, as long as the root ball was white throughout the 3 transplants. the red solo cup 1st, to the 1 gal. bag 2nd to the 3 gal. bag 3rd transplant.
warm not hot, the root system will kick into overdrive when you give it what it needs. it will blow your mind when you get this, at times u will have trouble keepin up with the demands of the neuts and water. thats a good thing if you stay ontop of things. thats the key and its a not so fun but man does it put out some beautiful flowers!

hope this answers your question.

thanks camaro, great advice! do you have any suggestions on an ideal heating pad? i have my plants in my closet and at night the temp drops to 65-70, (i dont think they put insulation in when they built the closet) during the day when my lights are on it's still only about 75 degrees. should i get a small space heater? or would that take too much moisture out of the air?

i love my temps down to around 65 at night. do you have fans in the room? if so not much if any blowing on them during the night. day time fan blowin right on them! not to strong, try doin it like mother nature. you know the wind blows hard at times and then very mild at other times. the stronger winds bend plants at times! i dont usually bend during flower, but ive seen tremendous results by doing so!
if your plants are true autos, ive never had one grow more than 2' with a 430 watt hps with the eye hortilux bulb.
the only time im concerned with humidity is during the last couple weeks, bud rot or mold is a bitc-. it comes on suddenly an ruins the plant where its growing mold. if the humidity is low its got to be real low to effect your pants. everyones rooms are diff. so different things will efect your girls in different ways.

o man!
i hope i wasnt pushy! this would be a scratch in the art of fine growing of the cannabis species. the equipment you have and asking before doing is a good sign! youve cleared the first biggest hurdle by doing what your doing!
would you like to see a pic of asome 31 day old veg plants?

ive had great success but im no teacher, loads of ideas that are sound and work for me. then again i have nothing else to do. others here are much better than myself. im using very low wattage bulbs
