A medical marijuana provider wants answers after federal agents raided his growing facility in Okemos Tuesday night.
Without warning, Drug Enforcement Agents stormed inside the warehouse on Jolly Oak Road and didn't leave much.
"The feds took medical marijuana, marijuana growing equipment, and all the plants. Basically everything inside the building, besides the sand," said Ryan Basore, who leased the facility to six medical marijuana caregivers.
Basore estimates that the feds seized thousands of dollars worth of medical marijuana and equipment. The DEA isn't saying much, just that agents executed a warrant and that the investigation is ongoing.
Under Michigan law, caregivers can grow 12 plants each. Basore estimates agents took 40 plants, math that he doesn't think adds up to any state laws broken, but this bust was from the feds.
"These caregivers didn't want to grow in their homes because they have children. They didn't feel it was safe," Basore said.
The plants that were grown in Okemos supply some of the nearly 900 medical marijuana patients who are members at Capital City Caregivers on Michigan Ave. in Lansing, which Basore co-founded.
Basore even reached out to law enforcement when he opened the growing facility in Okemos, inviting them to check out the facility to ensure that everything was legal, but his calls went unanswered.
So far, no one has been arrested or charged. Neither Basore nor his attorney has heard from the DEA since the raid Tuesday night.
