Fan & Ducting question

Weird. OD of fan's flange should be slightly less than the iD of the duct material, like 5.79", so that they *just* fit together. You could try picking up a piece of standard rigid metal single-wall duct pipe from the nearest hardware store, maybe it'll fit (store should allow return/refund if it doesn't, assuming you don't mangle it) better than that crappy "clothes dryer duct type" stuff that most indoor gardening stores try to sell their customers. You can wrap a layer of "foam tape" around the flange. You can wrap many layers of the "foil" tape around it. You can buy a rubber connector (like a Fernco) at the hardware store.

Or you could take your fan to the hardware store. Assuming it's a real one instead of a hardware-themed department store like Lowes / Home Depot... when you walk in, someone will come to you and ask how they can help you. When they do, hand them your fan and say, "Hi. I have a very small closet in my living room for all my home entertainment components, and with the door closed, my amplifier heats the space up to well over 120°F! My {brother/sister/friend/neighbor/etc.} got on the Interweb and saw on that doub doub dot com thing that this fan was highly rated for constant use as an extraction fan. So I ordered one and now I can't figure out how to get the duct... thing... stuff to fit tightly enough to pull a negative pressure. Can you figure it out?" And the person will. Won't even ask you what you're growing ;) .

The hardware store is a cannabis grower's second-best friend. Best friend is named Dremel Tool. . . .
