I'm going to get a 400w MH and a 400w HPS the MH lists for $70 and the HPS is $95

Makes sense, I guess. The only thing that doesnt make sense is why would you have a HPS in a veg and clone room? I mean you can veg with a red/orange spectrum as well but its not as efficient. Why not just go for a 1000 watt MH?

I find the plants like both lights[400w mh & 400w hps] during veg growth.
Before i made another room i used the 1000w hps and 400w hps for flowering and vegging.Now i use the 2 400w lights for vegging.More light spread out over the 6ftx3ft chamber.
The flowering room is 5ftx6ft,i plan on adding another 400w to it.I get great results with that much light in that chamber.

See now I can understand that, should of said that at the beggining! Thats why most LED lights come with blue/red spectrum, because the plants like both (Im guessing thats why they come that way?). When you use both MH and HPS duing veg do you notice a difference in internode growth? As in more stacked and less spaced apart.

Yes more stacked and less spaced apart.The seedlings get really bushy at around the 3rd or 4th week.
Using 1400 watts for budding really makes for a heavy and dense bud.

Thats what I thought. I have floro tubes that are made for growng plants. They have a blue/red spectrum and when I use these for veg along with my 1000watt MH my internodes are well stacked!

I figure the more light the bigger the harvest and it is true.
I used to use the 400/400 set up only before and the buds were never as big as i get them now with 1400w's for budding.The room is 5x6.

Picked up the 400w HPS Eye Hortilux today,i'll let you know how it does.
