Evaporation Stones

I was doing a bit of "light reading" this weekend by reading over a few chapters of this book:

Whenever evaporation takes place a lot of people have reported burping or eruptions; apparently in organic chemistry this is quite common and is called "bumping" is explained by the accumulation of energy in some molecules more than others. Ethanol is particularly prone to bumping so special care should be taken.

In lab circles they talk about an evaporation stone; this is basically a round "marble" that promotes the formation of bubbles and avoids bumping. A microbiologist friend of mine suggested that I use a handful of large glass marbles.

It should decrease your bumping but you can also play with your heat output to reduce bumping.
