I have a 120v cooling fan that can with 20gauge wire. Can I splice that to a standard extension cord that plugs into the wall? It works fine, but I just want to make sure that this isn't a hazzard.

Thank you!

Chris

Every additional splice added to a circuit increases failure dangers. Parts that are joined mechanically, but not soldered, will suffer oxidation and can fail due to surface resistance. So as the spliced wire gets older it will become more dangers. How big is this fan though? If it's a low amperage household fan, then the fire risk is almost laughable. If it's an industrial ventilation fan, the current draw could be enough to worry about.

It's just a 4" computer fan. The wires have been soldred as well. It sounds like I will be okay then.

Thanks a ton!
