DWC Question Netpots

I have a dwc system my plants are wilting and turning yellow at the bottom. I have just checked and the rockwool in the net pots are wet. So I am thinking maybe the plants have had to much water. So I have just drained some water out.

My question is how far should the net pot be from the water level. I am guess the rockwool can stay dry as the roots are in the water???

The water level may be below the bottom of the net pots as long as the roots are still making contact/submerged.
