Drooping Plant Update 3

Hey all, just got in from the very warm southern Cal. Visiting the kids and grandkids.
Problem i seen is that the leaves on a few are drooping and she is very dark green. I'm using the NukeHeads juice and Hydroton. Could it be that i do need to change the res. As it's been 2weeks on this run. I kept my Cobs 22inches from top of plant and dialed them down a bit to help. Anyone any thoughts? Happy New Year!! .

Looks to be nitrogen toxicity. How many ml per gallon are you using? Are you checking ph? I would suggest a 48 hour flush, plain water adjusted to 6.0 and ease into nutes at 2ml per gallon. Keep the ppm of the res 4-500 at this stage and watch the ph! It appears that the delayed nute change exhausted the effectiveness of the ph buggers and you've locked out all but nitrogen. Flush, mix, test and report! Let me know which thread you'd like to continue with, this one would be fine. Any issues you're welcome to come by and drop pics links or questions and I'll gladly help out. DWC is my niche, but throw a bean in some dirt and I become useless to ya!

The deep green is a sign of "nitrogen abundance" as it says on one of the charts. It doesn't look to me like it has moved into a toxic state (leaf hooking, burnt tips)

That sounds a little extreme to me. Maybe instead change the reservoir and just lower the N level 25%?

maybe he has hard water and have to use a ton of ph down, I know I have this problem and use a blend of acids to compensate

If you have hard water, you should expect to use more acid, but using "a blend of acids" sounds overly complicated and unnecessary to me. I would expect that using enough of any one acid should suffice to neutralize the alkaline components in your water. (Of course, you'd need less of a more powerful acid.)

Polyprotic acids (acids with more than one available hydrogen, e.g. H2SO4, H3PO4) provide buffering (i.e. they can help to stabilize pH), but only one of those acids should be necessary, and plain old pH Down has H3PO4, so I would expect that using just pH Down would do the job just fine.

but using "a blend of acids" sounds overly complicated and unnecessary to me.

GH ph down is a blend of phosphoric and nitric acid , other mfg of bottled nutes sell phdown for veg -nitric and for bloom -phosphoric.

I think we just had this discussion on another thread, I checked the bottle of GH PHdown just after. (thought it was just phosphoric , but it's a blend)

We may have discussed this before. pH, pH management, and pH Down come up a lot here, and I do what I can to disabuse people of some of the erroneous folklore that's out there.

When you said you were using "a blend of acids" I got this image of someone mixing up their own custom formulation, which seemed like a lot of unnecessary and even dangerous work.

My bottle of GH pH down says "contains phosphoric acid, citric acid, and monoammonium phosphate" (monoammonium phosphate being phosphoric acid with one of its hydrogens replaced with an ammonia, NH4H2PO4, so I imagine it's working as buffer).

Nerdy good fun. ;)

I see some purple petioles there :p

First time I went DWC I used 1 part nutes for dirt from canna (terra I think) , and didn't check the ph because I didn't have a ph meter (and I was armed with a huge set of ignorance+some stupidity) my tapwater ph is 8.5 ish and I also poured some canna rhizotonic that's ph ~9.

Guess they didn't know what I was doing so they didn't mind and grew bush :)

couldn't take them to the finish , many design flaws in the dwc and algae and probably ph went way overboard and last the boys in blue .

I have some freebie seeds I plan to germinate and use just the canna terra in a bucket, will monitor the ph and ec though , just for laughs , I just don't have any spare lamps atm .
