Hello!

First journal, first grow. Already having a great time though :) (Minus the spending money part.) Here is a little info so far:

Strain - White Widow XTRM Auto Fem
Just planted Dec. 4th
Indoor in closet
FoxFarm Ocean Forest Soil - 3 gallon pots 20% perlite mixed in.
Two 300w Mars Hydro LED Lights
Nice pH digital testing meter, with pH Up and Down.

I basically took everything off the walls in the closet, and ripped the carpet out. I installed 3/4'' sheets of R-Max reflective insulation. I was going to build a wall/door halfway through the closet. But instead I think I'm just going to spend another $12 and finish the other half of the closet with the reflective insulation, for if/when I decide to do more than 4 plants at a time.

Here is a few pictures so far. I am still missing a exhaust fan, filter, and nutrients. I do not believe I need the nutrients right away with these Autoflowering seeds. But I do plan on getting the 3 Fox Farm nutrient pack here next week. I also plan on getting a 4'' Hurricane in-line fan. Any input on this fan? I am going to drill a 4'' hole through the ceiling and run some ducting into my attic. Filter at some point.

I just planted these basically last night, one of them this morning. One thing I did not do was run a bunch of water through the soil first. I sprayed the top and hole where the seed was going with a hair spray can, and gave it a good spraying after putting the seeds in also. I also wrapped it all in plastic until they pop up. I hope me not running water through the pots first will not be a problem. Heres a few pictures.....sorry for the long rant. I'm open to any and all tips and info, especially auto growing and such.

It only gets more exciting from here. I'm on my first indoor grow myself. I guess the most important thing I've learned so for is ... Get to know your plants, intimately. Looking back I don't know how my plants servived my touture.

Hi Doliz,

I'm really liking what you've done with the wardrobe - be interested to see what it looks like when you've added the fans and ducting.

I've just started my first ever grow with LED's and an auto also but on a smaller scale to yours!

Be interested to see how yours develops too!

Subbed!

Hello everyone :D

Yeah I am looking forward to seeing how these come out myself. Normally I just have commercial grade stuff, 98% of the time. Figured it was time to go all in and do it the right way. The White Widow XTRM seeds looked very nice. They also send me 5 'Bianca' seeds that are not autos, so I'm happy about that because I can clone those later on :D

I almost want to plant one of the Bianca in a 5 gallon pot that I have, but, it would need a different light cycle than my auto's do. I was going to hook up everything to it's own breaker but it did not work out like that today. But did get some outlets put in the closet. I plan on doing the other half of the walls with reflective foam here soon, maybe today. I will have far more room then. But I don't plan on doing a lot of plants, at least not now ;)

As you can see in the picture, it will almost double the space I have. But might be useful later. Just see no reason to build another wall/door there.... (the extension cord and such is all removed now and looks nicer too :p ) Also, 3 of the 4 lil ladies came up today, so far!

Good start man, I think you'll enjoy the process. After you get a cycle or two down, try some feminized non Autos. You'll have much more control over the Veg/Flower times and get better and better results with each grow of a strain. I think most strains are all a little different in what they like and don't like. BUT don't get lazy or passive after you have your skills refined! I did just that a few grows ago and almost lost the whole cycle. Water pH was all over the place suddenly, and I got lazy and stopped checking it each time.

Best of luck in your grow, thanks for the journal.

Howdy Doliz,
Looks like it is all coming together for you, sweet. You may already know this but I did not see you cover it so I thought it would be a good idea to mention incase your not aware. Just a couple of things that caught my eye. 1- you mentioned you got a PH meter and the up and down which is good, you will be using those a lot but since you mentioned the up and down I was surprised you did not mention the Standard reference solution 7.0 and 4.0 for calibrating your PH Meter. Pretty minor I know but if it is not calibrated it is worthless. Also I see you have your LED a bit close to your plant, with an LED you can back that quiet a ways back off a small plant. I run my LEDs like 24 to 30 inches away from young plants then only down to 20 to 24 inches when they get older. You can actually cook a seedling with an LED if you run it to close.
Other then that I would say you are doing a bang up job:goodjob:
Keep up the good work

Thank ya for the tips :D I moved my lights up some, I had read that keeping them very close would help with it trying reduce stretch. I had a few concerns though still. I had not flushed the pots through with water before planting. Just used a hair spray bottle and sprayed the top inch or so, and sprayed after planting. It keeps drying up pretty quick, so I have been just slowly dripping water around the plant a inch or so away today, until it's big enough to give it a nice watering. I just don't want to over-water it. Any tips on this issue?

And yep, the pH meter I got came with the 4.0 and 7.0 solutions and storage liquid. I do not have a soil pH tester yet, or any other testing meters actually. I will be getting nutrients within a week or so, although I do not believe I will need them for awhile yet. I also am very curious on how a 4'' hurricane in-line fan will be, any idea? Good enough for this closet? Ever used Hurricane? Thanks again!

I made the same mistake with my LED lights, created a few issues for me. It's not so much the heat but the light burn from these newfangled lights. I finally found the sweet spot. I was also forced to veg with these. That also created a couple issues. Be fun to watch another similar LED grow ✌️

Oh wow man, look n rad in there!:thumb: Hey with you wanting to start up those other seeds and worried about the auto light cycle, I think your ok dude..... That's the beauty of those autos, light cycle don't much matter to them, they flower no matter what. I d maybe double check that but I m sure I heard that somewhere..... Worth the time and space forsure!
Can't wait to see her grow, good luck man:cheer:

Also, (I can't edit anymore) I have been thinking of a better way to go about using a fan like that, if I really even need it. The ceiling of the closet has that angle, so not a whole lot of room at the top. Also I will have to drill a 4'' hole through the ceiling into my attic, which again, not the best handy man :p

Anybody got any good ideas about what I could do? Or should I really take the 4'' inline fan route (Is 4'' going to be enough for the whole closet?) and drill the hole into the attic, and run the exhaust that way? Thanks again!

I personally think the fans a great idea, especially with a speed control, just incase:thumb: The plants sure love air movement for so many reasons, co2 being one of the main ones! With your grow room being upstairs your gonna go through some temp swings throughout the seasons so by having a good exhaust fan running it allows for more control.... That way you can decide if you need a carbon filter after your first harvest to mask smell or if just dumping into the attic is enough.

Very true.....I was going to order that fan today, but it appears I will need to wait until Friday. So hopefully someone will get back to me on here if they have used that fan before. It' seems as good a fan as any.

Will get the hole drilled and such before I get the fan then. I would imagine the exhaust hole being in the very back corner of the closet would be the best location, will have to do some research on that I guess before I drill :p

Not sure of your heat situation, especially in the summer. If your exhaust is high near the ceiling you'll be able to remove some heat. If you need to retain heat, the exhaust vent near the floor will do better. I cut both top and bottom vent holes and switch the location based upon temps. Just a thought for your attic grow, they can be "temp"ermental!
