Guam - Local doctors will meet next week with one of the co-authors of a bill that would legalize medical marijuana. Members of the Guam Medical Association, the island's largest organization of medical professionals, are expected to meet with Sen. Aline Yamashita, R-Tamuning, on Nov. 14 to discuss Bill 215. The bill's other sponsor is Sen. Tina Muña Barnes, D-Mangilao.
The bill would legalize the use of marijuana for various medical reasons. The medical group has voiced its concerns on the bill and has asked to meet with legislators to discuss its potential impacts. Dr. Thomas Shieh, GMA president, in a letter to Yamashita, wrote that the senator's willingness to communicate with the association is appreciated. "We look forward to working with you and your colleagues in making improvements to the quality of care on Guam with sound, evidence-based medicine," Shieh wrote.
