Do sprouts still need darkness once seed pops?

I've got seeds in jiffy's and the seeds have popped, half have tap roots. Do the popped seeds still need darkness?, or is the fact they are 1/2 inch down in potting mix good enough darkness?, or once popped they don't need darkness at all?

The sprouts haven't come through the soil yet.
