A 37-year-old man has been charged with trafficking in marijuana after the Collier County Sheriff's Office Vice and Narcotics Bureau received information about an indoor growhouse.

Edgy N. Leyva, of the 2000 block of 72nd Avenue Northeast in Golden Gate, was charged with trafficking in marijuana with more than 25 pounds or 300 plants.

Investigators responded to the house after receiving a tip and were given permission from someone inside the house to search the residence, according to reports. There were no immediate signs of a grow operation inside and they received permission to search a shed behind the house. They found empty pots, bamboo stakes, light hoods and a small portable air conditioning unit at the rear of the shed.

The entrance to the shed was a roll-up door that was padlocked. Deputies asked if they could see inside and that's when Leyva came outside the home and unlocked the shed and deputies could smell marijuana coming from inside, reports say.

Inside the shed they found electrical transformers, high intensity light bulbs and two small window air conditioners. Deputies saw 10 small marijuana plants in pots along with marijuana hanging to dry. The marijuana weighed in at 57 pounds, according to the reports.
