Dennise - No Longer The Newest Of Newbies - Not Growing In MG - Perpetual

That layer on the dermis of the leaf can protect it from powdery mildew and other fungi. That's what you are seeing. My seedlings may be too far gone. One is bending in the middle. The tragedy! I'll start more seed today.

No im referring to the residue left behind by the neem oil on the leaves when it dries up.

I know. That forms a barrier and is how neem oil works with fungal problems. It may not look great, but it is helping protect the plant. If you don't have fungui or molds you can just wash it off with water a day after you put it on, but the insect has to eat the neem. You probably know this...

:)

Yep they eat the leaves it is on I dont think they necessary go to eat the neem it just is on those leaves.

Sorry, if the insect does not ingest the neem, it has no effect on the insect. That is why neem is not toxic to beneficial insects. They don't pierce and suck leaves. Here is a really great site with easy to read info on neem oil and how it works:

Neem Insecticide - Neem Oil Insecticide - Does It Work?

Thanks I know how neem works. What I was saying in a shorter version is the neem happens to be on the leaves that the insects eat. Ive used neem a lot and you can come to my blog and see it mentioned there as well as homemade organic pesticides. But what I was saying is over time you would think the bugs would know to stay away from the neem as they see their whole populations die from it but thanks for the article im sure someone can utilize it. As long as your helping someone thats all that counts. Good post

By the way I wasnt trying to come off as a ass. I read it after I wrote it and I felt I came off that way and if you felt I did I apologize. I read the article you posted and it confirms what I know about neem but I did learn that it stops bugs from flying. I knew it stopped them from eating and reproducing though. I knew it wasnt fast acting and unfortunately most people think it doesnt work if there isnt instant results. I think organic is always the way to go. No poison for me thank you and if I had the money I would eat completely organic and gmo free but the problem is organic costs so much and the growers know they can charge more for healthier living since it is a evergrowing industry.

No problem, I didn't think that. I was offering information. I've been an organic grower for three decades. I agree about the organic prices, but it is not the growers, it's the places they sell the produce. This is why I try to go to the farmers markets when they have them on Saturday and Wednesday.

Did you read where they put grasshoppers in jars, one in each with a leaf. One leaf had neem on it and the grasshopper in that jar did not eat it and starved to death while the other grasshopper ate the leaf. So, they are finding that neem actually deters insects which brings me around to the original comment I made of, leave the haze of neem on the leaf because it is systemic, and deters pests of all kinds.

Yes I read that. Over here the farmers markets are hours away sadly. I love farmers markets. Well there is a flea market nearby but it is mostly fruit like apples although cooked apples with some cinnamon is yummy.

I leave it on until I see no pests. I dont leave it there forever because I dont want to block the stomata

Fortunately, it breaks down pretty rapidly from the UV rays. I haven't used pesticides in years, not even organic. I don't need to, but for some strange reason I have a major aphid infestation in the greenhouse this year. This has never happened to me before. With MMJ growing, it is worth quite a lot to me. Not money, but certainly the ability to sleep and have less pain. And to help friends who also live in pain. So, in this case, I will and have used some pesticide, but only contact sprays, nothing systemic.

I have another question for Dennise. Of course, how are you feeling is the first question, but the second one is about bud washing. I don't remember who is the king of bud washing, but we did discuss it. Do you remember? Who was it? My harvest tastes like soap or detergent and I don't like it very much. It is very strong, but taste is not so good. I really need to pay attention to flushing and things like this. I did flush the plant for two weeks before cutting, though, so????? Does washing take away that taste?

Hey Dennise,

How are you doing girl? Taking care of yourself?

Question, with all those LEDs around is your eyesight constantly odd? I need to buy those classes KingJohn posted about as I am walking from veg grow to LED and my eyes are confused! :trance:

Yes something is messing with my eyes but again I'm now not sure if it is the lights causing the floaters or the MS or maybe a combination of the 2..........:circle-of-love:
