Dark Devil Auto: A Community Grow Record

Finally I found the opportunity to say hi to one of my inspirers Sweet Sue and other great growers here. Thanks for sharing all that beautiful stuff. I have just completed my first grow journal and quite happy to share it with other people. I also want to announce that I will be joining you on this thread in a few weeks with my DD girls who are little fat seeds sleeping in the fridge at the moment. I've read many posts of this thread and others specially the ones about bud washing. I was really eager to try it but I did not want to upgrade the first grow standarts that much :)
Actually, I just did not feel experienced enough to give it a try. I also feared to ruin the buds which I am sure is totally unnecessary but this was my first grow and I will try that in my upcoming grows for sure. Anyway, I still tried many things in my first grow and quite happy with the results. Here is a link below if you don't mind. Everyone is welcome to visit and see my girls anytime. Wish you all a great day. Keep up the great inspiration.

CannaPeace's 1st Grow - 400W HID - GLR/DLC - Kryptonite/Anubis/Bag Seeds - 2015/2016

:welcome: CannaPeace. I'll certainly give your journal a look see in the morning. I've been trying to get to bed now for about two hours, so one more distraction isn't possible tonight, even one as tempting as yours. Incidentally, love the avatar.

We look forward to your entry into our community grow. I did budwashing on my first grow and never looked back. You'll be more confident on your next go round. We actually had testing done by one of the HB members that proved there was no significant loss of trichomes with bud washing. It helps to dry and cure faster and leaves a cleaner tasting product.

As you can tell, I highly recommend the practice, but I fully understand the hesitation.

I'm gonna try for bed again.

Hi everyone, some beautiful plants in here. Here's my charge at day 51.

Beautiful Barliman. I see signs of superior skills on display with this one.

Thanks Sue, not so sure about that! Really just feeling my way with growing. I hadn't grown a single thing until 10 months ago when my first NL broke ground.

Mine stands 23" high as well. My height perception included the SWICK it sits on. :laughtwo:

Hi everyone, could I please pick your brains? I'm really struggling when it comes to harvest. I've read all sorts of conflicting ideas and information with regards to Autos and how to determine when to chop.

Do all trichs amber? Does milky replace amber at times? Is milky an intermediate stage between clear and amber?

TIA, Barliman. Ps, my lady's all bent over but I'll get my string out and measure her. :D

question 1) ok.. but there's a lot of damage.

2) it's somewhat strain and environmentally dependent. some do more than others. given enough time to age i think most normally clear will turn to amber. i've noticed in the past that pink/purple/blue hang on to their color for a very long time. even in storage.

3) most strains are harvestable when milky. anything beyond that is finding a personal preference.

4) yes. typically.

i use a lot of factors to determine when i cut. first indication to start watching more closely is the hairs turning color. i usually start checking trich's when 50% of the hairs are red. once again this can be strain and environmentally dependent but it's a good start point for me. i like to see the trichs stand up very pronounced. in many cases this happens with hazing or clouding of the glands. now i start to watch a combination. hair color and how the newest ones are growing and protruding from the flower. trich color. mostly looking for amber at this point. water intake. is she sucking it down and is my soil compacting or is it completely compacted and she just sits there waterlogged. and lastly but most importantly flower swelling. i want a good swell, but not too long. many strains nanner when they reach over maturity. nanners cause poppers (lol) and ruin the flavor imo.

:Namaste:

Thank you gypsy, for that insightful response. :hugs:

I watch the pistils, in the same way, but I don't concern myself with watching for amber trichomes with this particular strain. I'm watching for the shift that sometimes comes overnight, when everything goes milky. That's my cue that we're within the window of opportunity. At this point I'm watching the pistils. I want no new pistils, if I can make myself wait that long. :laughtwo: To be honest, I'm usually drooling over the plant by then and ready to chop at the slightest whim.

With other plants I watch for the trichomes to just begin to turn amber. I want a cerebral high, so as little amber as I can get suits me fine.
