Dark Devil Auto: A Community Grow Record

It’s completely impossible to test. All seeds are different, even s1s.

Well, I've got a few four-year old, poorly stored S1 DDA seeds (and a like number of "her sisters") left, and others from the same storage have been somewhat reluctant to germinate. Do you suppose it'd be a good time to give them a little scrape, swirl them around for 30 seconds or so in some 3% H2O2, then top their little cups off with some warm bottled water (all I have right now unless I want to sneak over and raid the neighbor's outside tap), let them soak for a day or so, then plant them?

The native is getting restless  . And I found one of my smallest open-bottomed rabbit wire "seed protector" cage that I used to use for protecting prospective outdoor flora until it got a couple inches tall. I think it's tall enough to cover some 1½" tall plastic cups that I have and still leave room for the actual sprout to appear. After that... Well, maybe I can stick them outside somewhere until they're large enough to survive a hungry rodent, IDK. I've been thinking about sticking them in the woods, anyway. They might look enough like "not cannabis" to survive the local kids, maybe?

LOL. I'm an easy 1,000 miles north of you, probably (and a good bit further than that, eastwards). If mine don't make it, I'll be disappointed - but not crushed. Got a few Seedsman auto seeds, too. I think I want to make sure that the mice can't knock the wire box off more than anything.

Although I would like to grow some DDA and SSDC, of course.

Kind of like to plant at least one of each in the ground, too. Spike it with Osmocote Plus and hope for the best, return in 80 or 90 days and hope to be surprised ;).

I found a spot in clear view that is almost perfect (it faces North instead of South :( ). It's beside a divided four-lane highway, but up a cliff 50 or 60 feet. And only 15 or so feet from the top. I was going to rope from a tree at the top - but then someone cut the thing down between September and yesterday. I'm about 23 years past being dumb enough to scamper down - carrying seedlings, water, fertilizer, perlite, and a shovel - without at least paying lip service to a safety rope. i was bummed out when I went by (below) and saw that the tree was no longer there. It would have been awesome to have a couple up there, especially if/when they turned purple.

Should have thought of it last Spring, huh?

@TorturedSoul for your older DDa seeds have you been scarifying them? For me that’s helped an awful lot. I also like to germinate in a hempy solo cup. It works amazingly well, even for autos. I literally haven’t had a seed fail yet. Once you see true leaves you can pluck the seedling from the perlite and transplant into wherever

Some of them, with an unused emery board. They spent a couple years upstairs, where it occasionally gets down to freezing and often gets to 100+F (seasonally). I might scrape these with a knife or single-edged razor blade, IDK. I'd like to de-wax the seed cases, but the only thing I have that could do that is my remaining supply of antimicrobial Dawn, and that would "probably" be counterproductive, LMFAO.

To be honest, I'll be more surprised if anything comes up than I will if I end up tossing them after a week or two. At one point, I had enough of them that I was pretty casual about storage conditions. But then I started giving them away to people who wanted to grow, but didn't have any seeds. I'm not even sure that there are five of each remaining, stuff like that, it's just blurry dots unless I grab the cheaters that a friend gave me last Autumn.

I'm planning on putting three DDAs in a 5 or 7 gallon pot outside, but I'm going to give it another couple of weeks before I'd leave them out overnight here in Los Angeles.
Over the last three years I've grown two Dark Devil plants outside. They do pretty okay till they start flowering. I think the fragrance of the flowers draws pests to them cause they took a beating. I have poor exposure to the sun so the plants are small to begin with but factor in taking a beating by the bugs and I ended up just ripping both up and tossing them.

The only one I got to flower got hammered by mites now that I think of it, thanks for mentioning this. I have known folks to grow them outdoor w success tho I’m sure of it, @Blew Hiller comes to mind - but maybe i misremember. If anyone can, Shed can do it!

Been there, grew that!

Got 30 grams :).

Got 30 grams :).

Last year, I gave my buddy a five-gallon fabric pot, enough 37.5% Fox Farm Ocean Forest / 37.5% FF Happy Frog / 25% perlite mix to fill it, a (relatively) small amount of Osmocote Plus time(?)-release prills to pre-load the mixture with, and some DDA seeds. He chucked a seed into the container, gave it a good soaking, stuck it under a Mars-Hydro Mars II 900 blurple, and basically ignored it until harvest time (other than watering it occasionally, of course).

If I'm not mistaken, Susan posted a picture of it in this thread. He got two ounces and a few grams - and seemed disappointed. So - wishing to encourage him in regards to his gardening hobby - I told him, "Don't worry, if you continue to grow cannabis, get some nutrients that allow you to tailor the 'feed' depending on what the plant shows you, give it a little love instead of treating it like an office fern, and move your grow setup into a properly-sized space instead of a huge closet or at least paint the walls of this one white , you'll surely harvest a decent amount the next time you decide to grow a DDA."

Er... OOPS!

Hmm... Lives in Maine, grows lots of cannabis? If I'm remembering correctly, yes, he does grow outdoors, sort of - but in a greenhouse instead of "completely outside." That might make a difference in regards to amount/type of pests (and control of same), IDK.

check it out everybody. I’ve got a DDa that’s finally growing normally for me. I’m really happy with how she looks. I think the hempy has something to do with it

The only problem with that entire statement :).

Yeah, no doubt. Someone at the time told me to tell him that it was a respectable yield for the strain. Probably Susan.

It'd be interesting to stick on in a 20+ gallon DWC setup and let her "run" to her fullest potential, just to see what that might be. Wouldn't use all the root zone space (I expect), but it... Well, IF all the other variables were also maximized, I don't think it could be beat, assuming it wasn't some kind of mutant runt sport, of course.

I'm out of here for the "night," y'all have fun!

Just a quick friend hello.

I have a couple DDAs in coco now. Going to reverse one and make some femenized autos to share. Cheers and hope everyone had a great 420!
