District of Columbia officials have published a revised set of regulations on implementing a new medical marijuana law that changes the structure of who will oversee marijuana in the city, the Washington Examiner reported.
The regulations published Friday put marijuana growers and sellers under the authority of a four-member board appointed by the mayor. Under the first set of regulations published in August, marijuana would have been regulated by the same city agency that handles liquor licenses, the Alcoholic Beverage Regulation Administration. Advocates had opposed that move, saying marijuana should be controlled differently than alcohol.
The D.C. Council has 30 days to approve or reject the new draft before the regulations become effective.
