FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Authorities say a husband and wife have been arrested in Flagstaff after 110 pounds of high-grade marijuana was found in their recreational vehicle.

An Arizona Department of Public Safety officer stopped the RV's driver late Wednesday night for making an improper lane change on Interstate 40.

A search of the vehicle turned up hydroponically-grown marijuana in the cargo panels that had an estimated street value of more than $800,000.

DPS investigators believe the marijuana originated from the Grass Valley area of Northern California and was headed to Dallas.

They say 54-year-old Scott R. Flairclough and 59-year-old Diana L. Fairclough-Smith have been booked into the Coconino County Jail on charges of possession and transportation of marijuana for sale.

It's not immediately clear where the couple lives.

Amazing they consented to be searched.

Who said they consented to be searched? Where I am at they will have dogs there before they even ask to search. Once the dogs hit, its all over.

Hmmmm, why would DPS(AZ Dept Of Public Safety) be speculating about anything other than the illegal lane change? And how did they conclude the weed was hydroponically grown and if it's not clear where the couple lives, how does DPS arrive at the conclusion the weed originated in Grass Valley Ca and moreover, it was headed to Big "D"? I smell a weed rat....:peace:MF

It would be fairly obvious that the cops had information.Whether or not it was from a rat or just from a scared couple trying to get what they thought would be a break for cooperating, who knows.I have seen enough of both to turn any one's stomach.:peace:

It's astounding how they come up with monetary seizure figures. This latest one: $800,000/110lbs= $7272/lb. They must be figuring that it's worth >$450/oz.

It is illegal to search an RV - if license as such - because it is a residence and a traffic offense calls for the driver to exit the vehicle only if s/he can't communicate with the officer through the driver's window. It isn't legal to detain the vehicle to wait for drug dogs, either, as long as the driver hasn't done anything illegal beyond the traffic offense, which will have resulted in a citation at the worst.
