Prefiling of bills begins one week from next Tuesday, on December 1! The sooner a bill is filed, the better its chances of moving forward. We will have a House bill filed again, and again, without Republican sponsors, the bill will almost certainly die without a committee assignment or hearing.
That's why it is extremely important for you to contact your Missouri State Senator right away and ask him or her to sponsor a medical marijuana bill in the Missouri Senate this year. Point out that the American Medical Association now has recognized that marijuana has medical use. The AMA has not endorsed state medical marijuana programs, but it has dropped its former opposition to use of marijuana as medicine. The Amercian College of Physicians, American Nurses Association, and many other medical groups have endorsed marijuana as medicine as well as support ending the criminal prosecution of patients.
Please share with us the responses you get from your state Senator. Please contact him or her, even if the Senator is a Republican or has previously stated opposition to the issue. The new AMA position, the federal decision to not prosecute those who comply with state laws and the progress on the issue in other states make it likely that some will reconsider their opposition. We really need a Republican sponsor, but any Senate sponsor would be a great step forward!
You can go to Missouri Senate | Missouri General Assembly to find how to contact your State Senator. Please send email, but also call, fax and postal mail.
