Six new ailments were approved for patients wanting to use medical marijuana in Connecticut.

Right now, there are around 8,500 medical marijuana patients in the state.

All the marijuana prescribed must be grown in Connecticut, for a grow lab in West Haven, that has meant plenty of business.

Advanced Grow Labs has been cultivating and selling medical marijuana to licensed Connecticut dispensaries for just over a year now.

The process is meticulously measured as the plant makes its way from room to room in the company's facility.

"It's probably about 75 degrees, perfect day, it's always sunny and warm at advanced grow labs," said David Lipton of AGL.

Once finished growing and drying, the product is broken down into the many choices available for patients.

There are several options when it comes to how they would like to ingest the medicinal properties of the plant.

"When the patient goes to the dispensary, they are going to have a lot of options for cannabis as a medicine, one is going to be a flower, like this in 3 and half gram drams," said Lipton.

A vape pen, gel capsules, or even edibles like cookies, brownies and honey infused with the potent properties are available with child safe packaging.

Just like the plants, the business is growing, too.

"We are anticipating more demand, because there are more patients signing up and three more dispensaries, right now we are adding another 120 grow lights," said Lipton.

New grow rooms are being built and employees added, now close to three dozen work inside.

It's a new market, one that only looks to be getting bigger.

"We see ourselves as a viable business for the future of Connecticut, as we keep expanding with more patients we see ourselves producing a pharmaceutical product and someday we might be the big Pfizer, and we'll be right here in Connecticut," said Lipton.

All and all, over 225 new jobs have been added in the state directly related to the medical marijuana program, according to the office of Consumer Protection. 430 doctors in the state are registered to certify patients to buy medical marijuana.

Advanced Grow Labs is one of four grow labs in the state, and require a license for operation, while being strictly regulated by the state.
