Rep. Jared Polis (D-Colorado) gives background to the benefits and historical significance of hemp in the culture of the United States of America. He and fellow legislators Rep. Earl Blumenauer (D-Oregon), Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Kentucky), and Rep. Andy Barr (R-Kentucky) have been championing for the Federal Agriculture Reform and Risk Management Act of 2013, better known as the FARRM Bill, and believe restoring the once prominent crop of hemp inevitable and profitable for the American farmer.
Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa), shows his closed mind to the issue by continually relying on the reefer madness rhetoric of the 1930's, leaving him with ultimately no logical, scientifically based argument to his side of the debate. This is not a drug issue. This is an issue of our universities being free to do realistic research with logical application to the growth and prosperity of our country.
We are importing the product of a crop that can be viably grown in the United States, and has been successfully farmed in the past. The proposed amendment will allow for agricultural growth for university research to do realistic work and uncover scientifically based information regarding the possibilities of hemp and its potential.
Oregon State University already offers a course in the Forestry program geared toward agricultural hemp, WSE266 INDUSTRIAL HEMP - Introduction to the botany, biology and agronomy of the hemp plant, and the origins, historical contexts and implications of contemporary legal and social issues surrounding its use for food, fiber, and building products.
Basing restrictions on pure ignorance bred from lies is detrimental to our country, and our planet. It's time to push our knowledge forward and restore hemp!
