Hemp oil from its planned Pueblo processing plant will eventually find its way into a variety of goods, including health and beauty products, but CBD Biosciences doesn't plan to rush the work, company executives say.
Focused on the emerging industry's long-term potential, the Pueblo plant will start by working with Colorado farmers to produce the safest and best-quality hemp plants and hemp oil in the world, they say.
"We want to be the lead company worldwide in the hemp industry," CBD Biosciences chief executive Jose Martinez of Pittsburgh said on Tuesday, a day after Pueblo City Council approved an incentive package to assist with opening the first-of-its-kind hemp oil processing plant in the U.S. The company will remodel the former Boeing building at the Airport Industrial Park for the 163-worker plant.
As part of the Pueblo project, the company plans to establish a Global Hemp Center of Innovation. The center will work with university researchers and others to promote safety, quality and transparency on the part of growers and manufacturers within the hemp industry, Martinez said.
