Coco mystery

I have just transplanted all my little girls from rapid rooters to a 1/2 quart container. I have been giving 1 of my girls a mix of about 1/16 strength nutes. I am trying to check my ppm in the running off, but I'm getting some troubling numbers. I have 80 ppm going in but 160 to 180 comming out. And to answer the question, I didn't smoke 1 before checking lol. This is my 1st ever grow and will be starting a journal. I did rehydrate my coco with a dash of cal/mag and a weak solution of nutes aprox 25 ppm.

Heya CBDman, welcome aboard:high-five:

It sounds like there is pre mixed nutes in the Coco. if you check the label it should tell you something.. i am curious if thats it:hmmmm:

have a great day :thumb:

Thank you NaturalSpirit I will check that when I get off work. Never even thought of that. I always tell my son your never to old to learn.

No problemo, i nearly killed some sprouts that way... spend like 3 hours on the internet to find what i wanted and never tought about nutes already beeing in there either:hmmmm:. this community really lets you rocket in knowledge if you just ask people find you:thumb:

Have a good day at work and let us know:ciao:

why are you checking the ppm of the run off? 180 is super low anyway and nothing to worry about.

Reason that the out ppm can be higher is as the nutrient solution evaporates, the water leaves and the nutrients get left behind. Then you water and pick it all up on the way out.. this is why most people flush weekly, or bi-weekly to clear any built up nutrient salts which cause burn.

Do you have a journal? I grow in coco and while i know close to nothing, i still might be able to help out ;)

Only time i check runoff ppm and ph is if i have any sort of issues happening that i cant figure out just from looking at the plant. In time you will learn to spot and instantly diagnose issues.

to name a few common issues you will often run into during a grow:
Tips of leafs turn white: Nute burn
Tips of leafs pointing downwards: Surplus of Nitrogen (back off nutes or specifically nitrogen)
Brown specks all over leafs: Lack of Calcium
Yellowing between leaf veins while veins are still green: Lack of magnesium
Upper leafs taco'ing inwards on fan blades/tips: Light too close, raise it.
Droopy plants: Caused from overwatering and overdried soil. Let soil almost completely dry out before watering.

that'll help get you started if you remember those more common issues. If anybody cares to add on, please do :)

This is my first, from reading I ran across someone saying I should be checking the run off. Sorry to waste everyone's time just didn't want to fry any of my sprouts .
I already killed 2 by overwatering while they were in rapid rooters, the directions say to have it sitting in a 1/2 of water. 2 of my seeds died, 1 survived. Ughh

Thanks for the great tips

1/2 of the rooter being submerged in water? Thats far too much! Just the bottom layer, like 1/4th an inch and less. Atleast for seedlings until you see roots spewing out the rooter pods and you transplant into soil.

If you acurarely ph your feed solution, then don't bother checking runoff. Runoff in coco, will always be high, and means little. During bloom, I flush at weer 4, and then final flush, and had few problems. Don't use coco now, too much work and too expensive .
