CO: Marijuana Tax Pays Off For Pueblo High School Seniors In Scholarship Program

In Pueblo, pot pays for college (well, some of it). On June 20, 210 high school seniors got $2,000 each from the Pueblo County Scholarship Fund and the Colorado Opportunity Scholarship Initiative. In total, $420,000 was disbursed. That is believed to be the first cannabis tax-funded scholarship program in the world, according to a press release from the Pueblo Board of County Commissioners.

All graduating high school students in the county are automatically eligible for the new scholarship, but to receive money students must fill out an online application via the Pueblo Hispanic Education Foundation.

Recipients must use the scholarship money at Pueblo Community College or Colorado State University-Pueblo. So now, for the first time, students can get money from recreational marijuana sales to go study marijuana in school at CSU's new Institute of Cannabis Research. Only in Pueblo.
