CO: Boulder's Marijuana Advisory Panel Staying On In Reduced Role

Boulder recently implemented a series of changes to its local marijuana laws, but the work of the citizen consultants who recommended those changes is not yet done, City Manager Jane Brautigam said.

The Marijuana Advisory Panel, tasked last year with evaluating city policy affecting the cannabis industry, will continue to meet on a much less frequent basis.

After the City Council approved a slate of panel-supported marijuana code changes in December, there was minor debate among city leaders as to whether the panel's work was done.

Some felt the panel had fulfilled its mandate and others believed the industry is changing so rapidly that Boulder will need a group of experts continually monitoring and offering guidance.

"After talking with the rest of our staff, we came up with an idea that I think can walk a really good middle ground," Brautigam said.

The plan, she continued, involves the panel meeting in the second half of each year to review legislative changes and any other developments that may have an impact on Boulder's industry.

"We know that those will affect our businesses," Brautigam said of those unknown but inevitable changes. "So we'd like to keep the (panel) going."
