Clone (2 feet) Light

ok, Im all new to this, so I am kinda confuzed....... when I see light cycles like
24/0 or 12/12 or 18/6 or wutnot.. from what I have read.. I never know, what side is light and what is dark.... left or right of the forward slash?!?! ////

and if I want my plant to bud faster, what cycle do I put it on??

24/0 = 24 hrs on
18/6 = 18 on 6 off
12/12 = 12 on 12 off

start the clone with 24 hrs on. When its healthy and strong go to 18/6.
When its about 1-1/2 ft start 12/12 to flower the plant. Remember plants can become 2 or 3 times their size through the flowering process.
