Clear water hose issue

I have just got a Peltier chiller unit which I will be making a water cooler with for my DWC pot/s (I have only one pot running but will extend to two in the future). I also purchased a 12vDC mini-pump to circulate the water. My issue is, the pump and also the water cooler block on the Peltier, have barbed connection fitting/s which will take a 8mm ID pipe. Where I live in NZ, I can only find 8mm ID Vinyl tube at the local hardware stores, but which is clear tube only.

Am I correct in thinking that the long runs of this to my chiller will be an issue with light/algae etc?

If so, I might try 3/8 air hose (anyone used this for the same purpose?).

Thanks guys.

I do not grow using a hydro style method but the issue of clear tubing starting to form algae on the inside and turning green has come up several times.

Most of the growers do end up finding a non-clear hose or water line. A place to look and ask would be a hydro growing shop. Around here some of the larger & better staffed ones will have supplies and knowledge for the gardeners who want to grow kitchen herbs like basil or grow micro-greens or even ordinary flowering plants.

Or try an independently owned tropical fish store (not a chain store or big box pet store) and talk to them. Even if they do not normally carry the size of hose or tubing you want they might be able to direct you to some store that does.

Or try an appliance store. Some appliances, especially a refrigerator that makes ice cubes, need water lines. They might have a hose or tube size that is not clear.

If you go with the 3/8 size do not forget to pick up a couple of clamps since the hose will not fit tight over the barb fitting and could slowly work loose over time.
