Minneapolis (AP) A Minneapolis City Council committee has rejected the idea of letting voters decide whether there should be a city ordinance allowing the use of marijuana for medical purposes.
The Intergovernmental Relations Committee voted 5-to nothing against putting the issue on the November ballot. Chairman Scott Benson said medical marijuana is illegal under state and federal law. If that were to change, Benson says there's little doubt that Minneapolis would set up centers for distribution.
The Marijuana Policy Project, which is funding the ordinance push by a citizens group, said it will sue the city to get the issue on the ballot.
The entire City Council is expected to consider the measure at Friday's meeting.
