A tip from a concerned citizen led to the arrest of a Gene Autry man Friday afternoon.
According to the Carter County Sheriff's Department Narcotics Division, Joseph Wilkins, 36, was taken into custody at his residence without incident. He was booked into the county jail pending charges which include possession of marijuana in the presence of children. Formal charges are expected to be filed against the father early this week.
CCSD Narcotics officers Gregg Johnson and Tom Allen went to Wilkins' residence after receiving reports Wilkins was using marijuana. Johnson said reports indicated there were at least three children ranging in age from 14 to 1 residing in the house.
The initial investigation led Johnson and Allen to obtain a search warrant. CCSD deputies assisted in serving the warrant which yield marijuana and paraphernalia. At the time officers carried out the search warrant five children were found inside the residence.
"The welfare of the children was referred to the Department of Human Services. A child welfare worker came to the scene," Johnson said.
Wilkin's 19-year-old wife was also at the residence at the time the search warrant was executed. She was not arrested.
Officers anticipate Wilkins will make an initial court appearance within the next few days. Bond will be set at the time of that appearance.
