Carnival: A Community Grow Experience

Wow Sweetsue I'm amazed at the yield from that hempy plant! Would love to see a blind test for people to test the difference in taste/effect!
:yummy:

I was a little over in my estimation J. :laughtwo: I’m rehydrating, if possible, by letting them lay out today. Then I’ll jar it all up and get a final total. Brix weighed it all out and it was just over 9 ounces. I won’t be complaining. :cheesygrinsmiley:

39 grams have the bud rot contained. I dug out SkunkPharm’s directions on safely filtering that pathogen out of my oil, and I won’t lose any significant amount of cannabinoids in the process.

I get to make CCO again and document better than I did the last time. Then I get to document cleaning up that oil using a fine 0.2 micron filtering syringe. :yahoo:

Life is sweet. :laughtwo:

The buds were at 53% RH this morning, so I’m letting them breathe, then I’ll jar it all up again and burp every day while I’m here.

I’ll bag it up with the FoodSaver and take it home. :slide: It’s enough to keep me going for an extended time, thank goodness, because I probably won’t get back to growing for the better part of a year. I’ll be looking for a whisper-quiet cabinet with no vibration before I risk growing in my new apartment.

I’m smoking some of her buds this morning, and DAMN! She burns to a clean, white ash and hits like fire. It’s a shame I wasn’t here to cob any. I completely forgot to ask Brix, but then there was bud rot I wasn’t aware of, and that might have been missed had we cobbed.

Once again, my cosmic team steps in to save me from something I never saw coming. :laughtwo:

I’ll be back later with a more precise weight. :ciao:

Both Carnivals (Brix’s and mine) are now in the jars. :yahoo:

First Brix:

103 grams total, 6.33 ounces.

And mine:

I managed to get the relative humidity of the buds up to 59%. This part weighed in at 256 grams.....

....plus the 39 grams that contain a small amount of bud rot that I’ll be processing into CCO and filtering to remove the rot.

That brings my total to 295 grams, 10.02 ounces.

Cool! Lol! I’m still a little stunned. :laughtwo: Turned our to be a good thing that I had to stellar Carnival harvests back-to-back. It means I’ll be free to take my time getting a cabinet built that’ll keep my grow completely stealthy. :hookah:

I ended up with 2 pounds dry weight from one Max Yield 640 watts. That was with light stress and no c02, etc. Here is a 1 minute or so video showing the grow and results.

She's gorgeous! You must have 2 green thumbs and a lot of light! Nice job! Cheers

Good grief! What a haul! :yahoo:

That light of yours is one impressive engine. :adore:

My carnival clones are coming in. They are to the left then back left and right . Front right is my bonsaiweed clone after the first cull.

Never tried the flush before but my hippies swear by it. Rolling with it.

How’s it going Kismet? Ready to harvest yet?

DrDoob recently purchased a THC tester that apparently is doing a bang-up job of determining THC content. How happy are we to hear this, and at only around $60 at that?

However........ take a look at what they tell you are the expected effects of consuming Carnival.

This thread is, to my understanding, the largest collection of Carnival enthusiasts on the internet. If I’m wrong, someone point me to the one that is. :laughtwo: Carnival is my base meds, and I may smoke more of it than anyone on this planet, aside from that canna wizard @Graytail. One of the reasons I choose Carn is for the appetite suppression.

I have never heard of anyone using this marvelous chemovar to treat insomnia. Is there anyone among us that can testify to doing so?

As thrilled as I am to have a good THC tester available, it chilled my blood to consider Carnival being suggested to a cancer patient wasting away from the inability to stomach food. And it hurt me physically to consider that anyone seeking sleep would be handed Carnival. I’m too much of a canna med woman to feel comfortable with this, although I’m not sure what can be done to correct it.

Doob and I went looking for the possible origin of this incorrect description of my favorite cannabis flowers, and I think we found it with Mr. Robert Bergman. Anyone recognize our Carnival from his review? I found the read unsettling. There were things I recognized, much that was generic extrapolation of things any cannabis med will do, and quite a bit that wasn’t my Carn at all. Somehow this review became a recommendation for Carnival as an appetite enhancer and an aid for insomnia, and paints what I believe is a terribly flawed picture of “the good stuff.”

From Mr. Bergman:

“Carnival is an upbeat sativa-dominant hybrid that is fruity and sweet in aroma and flavor, enhancing its lush cerebral effects. This strain is suitable for cultivating in an indoor as well as outdoor setting, thriving in relatively fuss free conditions, as long as it is exposed to a lot of light.

Carnival is a sweet and soothing strain that was created by the Ministry Of Cannabis, and was inspired by the colorful and vibrant festivals on the streets of Brazil. This cerebral strain was made by crossing sativa Haze with and unknown male phenotype, resulting in this delicious beauty of a plant.

This strain’s effects are powerful and potent, which we can thank its high THC levels for. Carnival can be an ideal strain for even novice growers to cultivate, as it can be maintained quite easily and without much of a fuss, and is quite resistant to common molds and diseases.

Effects
Carnival is an upbeat strain, due to its strong sativa roots. This strain is perfect for those nights when you are up for a little socializing – even if you are a little tired, this strain can do its magic, turning you into a social butterfly in absolutely no time.

When you smoke this vibrant strain, you will become more talkative than usual, wanting to share and exchange stories with those around you. Carnival can make you feel extra uplifted, so if you need to cheer up, this is a good strain to start with, as it will turn any frown upside down.

Carnival can make you feel happy and joyous, encouraging you to get up and go on an adventure. You will feel inspired and extra energetic when smoking this strain, with your ideas running wild, making you more creative. You will feel relaxed and soothed cerebrally with this strain, allowing you to feel less stressed.

Fragrance
Carnival is an attractive flower that is marvelously fruity, and is instantly enticing the moment you are able to smell it. This strain contains traces of grape and its aroma is altogether very sweet and will be hard to miss, producing a fragrance that is noticeable even from afar.

Flavors
Carnival is as tasty as it smells. This sativa dominant strain is all flavor, coating the inside of your mouth with a sticky and sweet taste that is also every fruity. One the exhale you can expect this strain to taste like an earthy pine, with gentle shocks of citrus.

Adverse Reaction
Carnival is a potent smoke, so you can expect that there will be some side effects. It is highly recommended that you take it easy on the dosage, as this strain can make you feel a little overwhelmed once you’ve had too much, especially for novices.

This strain is likely to make your mouth feel dry and your eyes dry and itchy, and often you might feel a little dizzy. Carnival can leave you with a bit of a headache in the end, and in very rare cases you may even feel a little anxious and nervous when smoking this strain.

Medical
Carnival is a potent medicinal strain that can reduce symptoms in countless conditions, making it a bit of a cure-all, especially for daytime consumption. This strain can help those who struggle to manage their depression as it is extremely uplifting and can encourage you to think more clearly and positively.

This sativa dominant strain can relieve eye pressure in those patients who suffer from glaucoma. Carnival can also reverse chronic fatigue, and is therefore prescribed to those who need a bit of a pick me upper and physical motivation, especially when starting their days.

Carnival can help reduce insomnia in long time sufferers, allowing them to fully be energized during the day so that they can sleep deeply at night. Patients who need help increasing their appetites can benefit from the regular use of this strain, as it can reduce their nausea and encourage them to consume healthier portions.

Growing
Carnival is easy to cultivate, as long as it is given much warmth and sunlight to thrive in. This strain can grow tall but not as tall as other sativas, so it is a suitable strain to grown even in an indoor setting. It is resistant to most diseases and can yield quite well when happy.

Flowering Time
Indoors
Carnival grown indoors can be expected to yield an average of about 14 ounces of bud per square meter planted. This sativa dominant strain should take an average of about 8 to 9 weeks to fully flower and be ready for a harvest.

Outdoors
Carnival grown indoors can be expected to yield an average of about 18 ounces per plant. This strain should be ready for a generous harvest around the middle of October.

Have you ever smoked or grown your own Carnival? Please let me know what you think about this marijuana strain in the comments below.

Robert”

I left him a comment wondering if he had ever smoked Carnival? :laughtwo:

Somehow that review became these graphics at Leafly, which, IMHO, don’t truly reflect what you’ll get when you indulge in Carnival.

I wasn’t looking for a new rabbit hole. I promise. It left me wondering how f’d up the rest of the data banks are. This isn’t helpful to patients, or is that just me?

Reading it over, there’s really a lot of the euphoria that rings true. I think it bothers me most that somehow this became the wrong, completely wrong, recommendation for disease states it may aggravate.

But how does one correct this?

Tell me, what do use Carnival for? What are the chief benefits you get from Carnival? What negatives have you noted in your experience?

It’s not fair if I ask you all and don’t offer my own views, eh? :laughtwo:

Ok.... Carnival lifts my mind above the madness, and I see life from a broader, more inclusive perspective, where everything is possible. This benefits a writer, as you can imagine. Carn lets me free my mind to follow the creative influences.

Carnival’s also great for those days when I need to knock out domestic work. Under the influence of Carn I’ll get the spaces detailed instead of simply wiped, and I’ll love every minute of it.

Mostly it makes me feel like me. The high is clear and blissful, and there has never been the suggestion of a crash, in all the years I’ve smoked. A couple quick hits and I’m right back up there where inspiration plays among the clouds. :cheesygrinsmiley:

Carn is what I’d reach for if I had a headache coming on. Where did Bergman hear that Carn could give you headaches? I’ll grant you, I sleep like a baby, but then I run like an energizer bunny. You’d sleep like I do too, if you did all I do in a day. Lol!

His review reads like he may have written a hundred of them, and after awhile, everything starts to feel the same. He's dead-on in many respects, and the reason he thinks it's good for sleep is because you wear yourself out during the day?/ :hmmmm: Ok, I guess. I sure wouldn't advise smoking it before bed. :laughtwo:

Cannabis in general doesn't stimulate my appetite. And Carnival doesn't seem especially fruity to me.

So, it's mostly correct - lazily written - and probably par for the course.

And isn’t that sad Graytail? Why do we settle for such mediocrity?

It’s my greatest expectation that I can find a way to stay fresh and authentic. Let me stay far away from “lazily written.” :meditate:

I feel there is a lot of variety in Carnival and he describes it as fruity and grape smelling. My Carnival was limey not what I associate as fruity though. Everyone is different in how a strain affects them too. Me personally I can sleep on just about anything if it's bedtime (only exception was a sativa leaning Snow Moon). I've passed out on Carnival just like almost every other strain. When the flower was fresh I did like that I wasn't thinking about food but as it cured I would start looking for the sour patch kids or some other tasty sweet thing. I personally never get headaches from any strain I've grown but I have from dispensary weed so I gotta think the headache is from how it was grown. I like Carnival and will grow it again someday but I don't have the same passion for it as a few of you do.

How’s it going Kismet? Ready to harvest yet?
Doing great Susan ! Hope you are as well. The Carns are all down and dried and on the way to cure. Smoking a bit of the fresh dried flower now. Been my go to for the day time for awhile. Alternate it with golden tiger on occasion. Came in total of 12 and a half zips so will have plenty around for myself to toke up on :roorrip:.

That should keep you for a time Kismet. I figure with everything else I have on hand my 9 oz will last me the better part of a year.

How glad am I that I cobbed so much Carnival way back when? :laughtwo:
