Carcass' $150 Low Budget Grow 2019

One of the things I do before purchasing anything online is find out what their policies are so I know what the risks are when buying, such as this one from Dr. Seeds ;), assuming that's the sponsor of course.

GERMINATION PROBLEMS

We will not send free seeds or offer a cash return on the basis of a claim of non-germination. Read more about germination here.

No - it was not @DrSeeds :)

I'm not a big fan of assumptions or speculations - and I'm definitely not going to say anything bad about a sponsor here - they enable us to have free services here.

For me, I will call out some bad service or bad experience I've had - and if someone wants to know more - we move away from the public forum into a private PM thread.

My bad experience is probably a drop in the bucket compared to the good experiences many others have had.

And the "GERMINATION PROBLEMS" policy DrSeeds provides is a good one.

The problem with some seeds may be the time of year we ordered them. I'm not certain, but shipping them during the coldest months of the year may kill some of them. This is why vegetable and ornamental seed companies send their seeds late winter or early spring when it warms up a bit.

Wow!

I never would have thought about that if you hadn't mentioned it. But sub-zero temps are likely not good for seeds - although I have not yet covered seed storage theory.

But I will be doing so soon enough - as I get more into cross breeding and making seeds this grow.

I like to use virgin (solid) coconut oil for my gummies, I didn’t know the onset is faster (thanks for that shed). It makes sense though cause my gummies always hit me in like 15-20 mi utes which I thought was fast. I made the decision to use virgin coconut cause I wanted my gummies to have a better consistancy at room temp... and they do.

Good to know - because that's what the Mrs just bought - virgin (solid) coconut oil - based on a video she watched.

It's good to get feedback that we are heading in the right direction.

Thanks folks!

If you use olive oil, the cannabinoids avoid the First Pass through the liver by being absorbed into the lymphatic system instead. This gives them more time to find cells in need of signalling. Cells releasing chemicals that are causing you pain.

The primary home of the immune system cells is the lymphatic system, and it's from this base that cannabinoids work most to reduce the inflammatory response that's causing most of the discomfort.

Coconut oil caps are indispensable for getting the cannabinoids to the liver lickety-split, where they get converted, and delta-9 THC becomes my favorite, 11-hydroxy. When you want to be high quick and long, coconut oil capsules are what you reach for.

When you're treating lots of inflammation olive oil increases your odds of long-term relief. It'll do heaps for calming the overheated injured areas.

I don't care much for coconut, but I'm willing to try it...for science! :)

Use refined coconut oil, it has no flavor

I've found two versions of coconut oil. One stays solid to about 25°C / 77°F The other remained liquid in the fridge. I don't know which would be best for gummies, but I like the one that remains solid for capsules.

I use the kind solid at room temp.

This go I used Preston's latest recipe:

2 regular size boxes of jello (1 cherry 1 lime for Cherry Limeade flavor)
3 packets unflavored gelatin
1/4 cup Canna Coconut Oil
1/4 cup corn syrup
1/2 cup water

They are a bit firmer than with 2 packets gelatin, so hopefully they won't get slimey. They still maintain the gummy consistent and aren't hard.

Add a sour patch coating, toss with:

1/2 cup sugar
2tsp Citric Acid

Oh... I cut my recipe down to 1/4c water and I add 200g of white sugar to make up for the bulk. This also gives my gummies a firmer texture. I also only do 1 box of jello and 1 box of Knox gelatin packs

That's something I never would have thought of-I imagine the freight in the cargo hold gets pretty friggin cold at 30,000 feet...
and I'm definitely not going to say anything bad about a sponsor here
That's a good practice-even the best seed suppliers are going to inadvertently ship out some duds...
"they can't all be gems.....

I'm going to use coconut oil next batch, which won't be very long from now-My daughter stopped by
yesterday, and it turns out she loves the gummies too, just like her mom...so my gummy stash is diminished considerably since yesterday...

Thanks,Shed, and thanks to @SweetSue for doing the research and sharing it with us!

Thanks, farside- I'm definitely sold-the (assumed) taste is why I didn't go with it to begin with....
looks like I need to get back to the kitchen again
Me too- in fact there's no reason I can't go ahead and infuse a couple more ounces today- with three of us eatin' on them, they don't last long...
I also only do 1 box of jello and 1 box of Knox gelatin packs
Sounds like we all have our own version of "the recipe"- I use a half cup of oil in mine, which makes them pretty potent, but also contributes to their oilyness...which storing in the freezer keeps to a minimum...

you know carcass, if you wanted less oily gummies you could make the oil more potent, use 1/3c, and replace the lost volume with sugar (so that you don’t yield fewer gummies)

if you wanted less oily gummies you could make the oil more potent
That's a good idea,Chef- I'll make my next infusion stronger so I can use a little less oil in the recipe-I do like the "one gummy bear and you're high enough" thing, so I'd like to keep them apx. the same potency ,but with a little less oil.
My present infusion is 2.5oz of buds in 2.5 cups of oil- I'll go with 3oz next time in the refined coconut oil and see how that works...

It's Monday update time!
The little seedlings are plugging right along-they're both the same size (really little)-I don't expect much growth from them for another week or so- seems like they concentrate on the roots for the first ten days or so, then they actually start growing.
Here they are all cozy in the box: APa on the left,CBDPKa on the right...

The roots have reached the bottom of the cup on both of them-not many yet,but a few:

1581360754606.jpeg

You might have noticed the bottoms are removed from the outer cup-this keeps the roots from growing out of the drain holes,so there's less chance for damage at transplant time...
1581360894633.jpeg

Not a lot more to say about them-they're 5 days above ground now,Fed them 2g/gal MegaCrop on Saturday evening, and they like it just fine...

This isn't really journal worthy, but I want to show you one of the males that I pulled out of the box a couple weeks ago-I decided to continue his training (quadline) for awhile, so I could try something a little different on him- I pulled off all the restraints, and inserted an adjustable metal ring into the center area to spread the plant out and open up the center for better light penetration-
1581361826857.jpeg

1581362191368.jpeg

It's pretty much the same as regular quad training, but instead of pulling the branches down, this pushes them out- every few days ,I make the ring a little bigger, and the plant gets a little wider.
I'm just experimenting with this one (since it's a boy) but I may employ this method for some of my outdoor plants a little later on in the year-I'm thinking the better light penetration will make for better bud production...or not...it's fun to experiment anyway.....

And that's about all I've got today....
Thanks for looking,I appreciate your support!

And congrats to @Virgin ground on her 2 little auto sprouts!

Did it come from a tomato cage or a canopy ring?
I made it from a coathanger-it's adjustable from 7" to 11"
So maybe I'll call it a tomato cage canopy ring---that covers all the bases... :)

I don't understand how that keeps the roots from growing out of the holes.
It worked on my last seedlings*-the roots stop growing when they reach the hole,so they do air prune.
It's also not dark down there ,so the light helps to stop the roots too.
*correction-one of my last seedlings...

I bet you come to find out the potency

You should be a chef... all the best chefs are excruciatingly exacting
I was a line cook and an excellent pizza chef. Lol

wait carcass, are you using coconut oil for the first time? If you are, stick to your same ratio. You might find theyre even more potent with coconut oil. With more bud as well they may turn out a bit too strong. Having two variables you wouldn’t have any idea.
