Carbon scrubber question

I've read 20+ DIY and carbon scrubber question threads that have helped me tremendously, but I'm still scratching my head on one question, and was hoping to get a clear answer.

Is venting exhaust FROM the grow area TO outside of the grow area and ambient area a must do for odor control? Obviously, if I can get away with circulating the air back into grow space, or back into the ambient room, opposed to putting holes in walls/roof to vent outside of the room, I would prefer to do that. I don't expect for heat to be an issue with cycling the air back into the tent, and definitely not back into the ambient room/area- I'm more concerned with odor. Grow space is 4x2.

Its not a must, its probably just a bit more effective to suck clean air in and extract dirty air out. I don't see any issue with setting up a scrubber that just circulates the air tho. You could also try a passive odor eater depending on your setup.
