Can't find a loupe? Modify binoculars

So if like me you've just about given up looking for a loupe all over town and can't find one... Buy some second hand broken binoculars like I did for about $3 and turn it into a loupe yourself :thumb:

I used an 8x30 pair of binoculars, simply took it apart and adjusted the lenses slightly to change the focal point. It may take some few minutes to calibrate to your needs.

Here are some pictures of the final product.

Hope this helps you like it did me

You can also purchase a $1 laser pointer, remove the lens and use it as a micro lens on your phone camera as shown here.

(First pic the little fibre inside the lens was barely visible, less than 1mm length, taken at a distance...!)

Simply bend a wire around it carefully (otherwise you might chip it like mine did around the edge) or find another way to keep it in place (RIGHT UP AGAINST YOUR CAMERA LENS) and you can take close ups like these!

I feel like I've been cheated by products on sale!

Loupes are available via Amazon ($10-up) or eBay ($5-$10) & cell phone (macro, etc.) lens kits are about the same. USB microscopes are < $20, as well.

True, but they don't deliver to some countries, and when they do, postage is twice the item value
