i'm trying to cure my weed, but i can't get it right!

i dried my buds, and put them in jars, i read that the humidity inside the jar should be 60-65, it's 55, but when i grind the bud it feels wet inside and tastes wet and won't burn well.

the hygrometer is calibrated and works well, what gives?

Hang dry plants freshly cut down (approximately 5 to 7 days, stems should crack when bent.)

Drying plants to fast (2days) SUCK... I usually hang plants in tent without lighting but still have air circulating.

Bottle the buds, Burp bottles daily for approximately 3 weeks.

Then burp every other day for approximately 3 weeks.

Buds should be stable by now, wet grass smell gone and starting to smell like good cannabis again.. Use 52% bodivida packs in jars for long term storage...

This is what I do...

That's the proper way for sure. But his buds are cut off & jarred already.

Put it in paper bags or a cardboard box for 24 hours. Seems to bring moisture from the inside out. It will still be slightly moist & sticky inside but it burns fine after I do that.
I concur..

cardboard is a dessicant - pulls moisture from the air. an important note for those who use cardboard moving wardrobe boxes to dry. you can counteract the effect by lining the box with plastic.

cadboy has the "right" method. hang times can change depending on the ambient rh%. i'm usually drying during seasons with little rh, as a result my hang times are closer to three days. if you are more damp it will take longer. 5 - 7 days is ideal.

you want to jar them at about 55 - 60 % rh - it's not carved in stone - then burp the jars in a curing process over a couple wks to a month or so to bring them in to the 52% range.

it helps to have bovedas and some cheap hygrometers to help. you don't have to be 1000% exact. once in the 52% range just leave them jarred up, and store long term in a dark cupboard or the basement. think wine cellar storage. mine sit in a box in a floor cupboard. leave the bovedas in.

the whole process gets easier with experience. but it's not hard. after a few grows you may not even want or need the bovedas.

Read his post. It's too late to hang dry. I do the box method all the time & get killer weed. So what's your suggestion for buds that have been jarred already & are too wet inside ? I'm ready to learn something new.

40% bodivida packs? Suck the moisture out. Or as you suggested, place in papperbag cause it will suck some moisture out. Honestly tho, I've never had this problem.

yeah but listen, if the buds aren't dry, why is the moisture 55% inside the jar? it makes no sense.

see below. even digital aren't that shithot of an instrument.

what you really wanna know is - should i worry if it reads 55% ? no. it'll be ok.

edit: would be worried if it never changed under any reason. like empty jar, under water etc ..

Faulty electronics possibly.

not faulty. imprecise. super expensive ones can be calibrated too.

i use cheap ones. literally pennies each, well 200 pennies lol, some are out by as much as 10% measured against the digital i have. i just mark them, and take it in to account.

remove and do a short paper bag low and slow in the fridge if extreme. otherwise longer burping time with the jar open over a greater period of time brings it in. have done exactly that. i sort of shoot for it. partly because i store longer term.

can use the bovedas to aid as well during the whole thing. i will bury them when i jar, cause i know it may be a while til i use them.

it's best just to use the 62 or whatever your preference is, and cure it in.

i've had stuff touching 70% and cured it in no worries. the time it took was a pain though. helps to be in a drier clime as well.

i should mention - i'm jarring it up higher now. i'm using all 62% bovedas now for curing. i've been criticized for it being possibly too wet - could encourage mold. i've never had an issue though, and a few others i know jar / cure it the same.

i think the extra 10% makes for better smoking weed. i do have to dry it some for extractions / infusions etc.

I've always used 62% bodivida packs. 52% for me is too dry for me.

How long did you leave the hydrometer in the sealed jar for your reading? You may need to leave it in for a while for the meter to get a proper reading.....

I'm going to be honest, I don't use any of those hydrometer thingies  ...I did at one time, but I ran out and never got more :hmmmm:

I just pluck the bigger fans and hang individual branches. Then I wait till the rest of the small leaves feel crunchy, about 5 to 7 days. Then I throw it into my crank trimmer and trim. Then I jar it for at least a month, popping the lid for 30 minutes everyday. It will "re-moisturize" and become almost wet feeling at first, but then start to be dry enough after about 2 weeks to smoke and start smelling and tasting the actual terpins instead of hay. After 30 days I'm good to go and don't have to open the jars anymore :thumb:

@420liam420 , you're going to find your own way, cuz everyone does things differently, but there are basic steps that have to be taken as "guidelines" so good luck and keep em green :passitleft:
