"Candlelight" Vigil at WI State Capitol commemorating victims of medical marijuana prohibition
Is My Medicine Legal YET? will host a Candlelight Vigil commemorating victims of Medical Marijuana Prohibition. The vigil will be held on June 7, 2009 from 7:30-9:30 PM at the top of the State St. steps of the Wisconsin State Capitol. This event is being held in conjunction with a candlelight vigil at the New Jersey Statehouse in Trenton the same time to mark the 6th anniversary of the passing of MS patient/medical cannabis activist Cheryl Miller. Cheryl's husband, Jim Miller, is speaking at that event. Jim Miller and Cheryl worked closely with IMMLY's Jacki Rickert and Gary Storck, and the four became known as the "Medical Marijuana Commando Squad" at a 1999 demonstration at ex-US Rep. Bob Barr's office in the US Capitol, at which Jim was arrested. Jim Miller has appeared at a number of Harvest Festivals and is slated to return this October for the 39th Annual Harvest Fest.
These candlelight vigils will commemorate deceased and living patients, diagnosed with one of the conditions for which cannabis is a medically recognized palliative. Event organizers are encouraging other interested parties to hold a simultaneous event that evening. The Madison vigil raises awareness by informing the public of the medical value of cannabis as well as giving supporters notice that Wisconsin's Jacki Rickert Medical Marijuana Act is expected to be introduced in the near future.
