Charges were withdrawn Thursday against a Medicine Hat man arrested over having a marijuana grow-op in his residence.

Ricky Lee Manz, 53, was charged with one count of production of marijuana in early February after police executed a search warrant for stolen property at a residence, and found a small hydroponic marijuana grow operation in the basement.

This charge was against Manz was withdrawn by the Federal Crown Thursday at the Medicine Hat Courthouse, as Manz did have a proper registration number for legally growing marijuana, but at the time of the arrest had not yet received the actual certificate – which he now officially has.

Police seized 55 marijuana plants and 148 grams of processed marijuana. These were forfeited to the Crown, although the equipment for growing marijuana was ordered to be returned to Manz.

A production of marijuana charge was also withdrawn against a second person who had been at the residence in February. This individual did plead guilty to having several stolen laptops, cell phones and tablets in her possession, which the original search warrant had been for.
