The Liquor Control Board of Ontario (LCBO) announced Friday that 40 LCBO-run stores in Ontario will begin selling cannabis after legalization next year.
Located in 14 cities across Ontario, staff from the cannabis dispensing LCBO shops will be meeting with members from the Ministry of Finance and the LCBO corporation to discuss the guidelines and best practices for the new products that will be introduced.
Shops will be located in cities and municipalities across southwest Ontario, including Toronto, Mississauga, Brampton, Vaughan, and Hamilton.
Other locations across the province will be located in Barrie, Kingston, Kitchener, London, Ottawa, Sault Ste. Marie, Sudbury, Thunder Bay, and Windsor.
Although the exact locations of each of the shops has not been announced, it was confirmed that 40 locations across the 14 cities will be selling cannabis, and that the country can expect that number to increase to about 150 LCBO-run cannabis shops by 2020.
One of the major guidelines agreed upon by the LCBO and the Government of Canada is that cannabis shops will not be in close proximity to schools and cannabis products will only be sold to individuals aged 19 or older.
