can i top this? cut this?

ive got a cali dream and orange crush that are both gettting to big in the veg cycle and im wondering about topping. Due to the flower room not having room for 2 more plants ive been vegging these 2 for a while and now that im ready to put them into my flower tent im worried they are to tall. So, both plants are well over 4ft and i was wondering what would happen if i cut the top 1' to 1 and half foot off the top, in a sense cutting it in half. And if i do that can i 'replant' the top half into some soil with cloning gel and make that also a veg plant? ive taken clones before.,but never this huge, and never the top half of a plant. Any thoughts? is this topping or is this stupid? thanks

you can top it but I'd take a few cuttings from the top half and clone those instead of cloning the whole thing because it'll stress the clone to much having so much vegetation to provide roots for.

so can i use the top clipping for clones? ive always read to use the lower branches/cuttings, because they have younger growth or something, but the upper limbs will work too? guess i didnt think of that, i was going to top, and cut clones from the bottom.? Thoughts?

you will be able to take clones from the upper part of the plant with know problem, they just may take a couple days longer to root
