September 27, 2016 — The public is invited to a free seminar, "An Introduction to the Endocannabinoid System," on Monday, October 3rd, 6:00 — 8:00pm at the Golden Empire Grange, 11283 Grange Ct. (off La Barr Meadows). The class is being offered by Americans for Safe Access (ASA-NC) as part of their "first Monday of the month" continuing education classes.

The material covered is geared toward newcomers but even those who are well informed on the topic will likely learn something new. Forrest Hurd, a local medical cannabis activist, will be the guest speaker.

Attendees will discover how cannabis works with our own enndocannabinoid systems to create homeostasis within our bodies. Homeostasis is defined as the ability to maintain a stable internal condition despite fluctuations from harmful external (dietary and environmental) factors.

Hurd was forced to research everything he could find about medical cannabis when his son, Silas, developed a rare form of intractable epilepsy known as Lennox-Gastault syndrome which did not respond to years of traditional medical treatments. Exhaustive research together with trial and error led to the breakthrough combination of cannabinoids that finally stopped the 75+ seizures that racked his son's body every day.

Forrest uses his hard earned knowledge to help other families and patients navigate the confusing and often contradictory array of information about medical cannabis. His research into epilepsy led him to the discovery that medical cannabis helps autism, PTSD, multiple sclerosis, and other movement disorders by enhancing critical receptors that control speech, memory, movement, or mood.

Doors open at 5:30; the program begins promptly at 6:00pm. Coffee and light refreshments will be served.
