Otay Mesa — A drug-sniffing dog working near the border yesterday zeroed in on a rental truck filled with about 1,000 pounds of marijuana, authorities said.
A California Highway Patrol officer and his narcotics-trained dog were roaming parking lots near the Otay Mesa border crossing. About 6:30 p.m., the dog reacted to a U-Haul truck in a parking lot at Roll Drive and Siempre Viva Road, CHP officials said.
The truck was registered in Arizona but no one was around to claim it. The officer impounded the truck and its cargo and planned to continue an investigation today, a CHP official said.
