A series of Tulare County Sheriff Department's early morning raids Wednesday led to the seizure of hundreds of marijuana plants and the discovery of a 2-year-old child in one of the suspected drug dens.
On Wednesday morning, detectives with Tulare County Sheriff Department's Tulare Area Gang and Narcotics Enforcement Team and the sheriff's County Apprehension Team Tracking Criminals in Hiding units partnered with members of the county's Resource Management Code Compliance Unit to investigate six homes in the Ivanhoe area.
Detectives issued a search warrant at a home in the 32900 block of Road 157 in Ivanhoe.
Residents were growing more than 88 plants. The plants were removed and destroyed, detectives said. Additionally, 10 pounds of processed marijuana was destroyed.
Detectives contacted several people living at the home. They also discovered a 2-year-old child. The child was removed and released to child welfare services, detectives said.
Roberto Garcia was arrested on suspicion of cultivation of marijuana, possession for sale and prohibited person in possession of ammunition.
Elizabeth Myra, 29, and Gerardo Magana, 27, were also arrested and booked into Tulare County Pretrial Facility.
During the search of a home in the 15900 block of Beechwood Avenue in Ivanhoe, detectives found 160 plants. Jose Antonio Espinoza, 37, was contacted and arrested.
Detectives went on to serve civil abatement warrants to four homes in the area.
•15800 block of Edison in Ivanhoe: 88 plants.
•15600 block Beechwood: 147 plants.
•15700 block of Paradise: 40 plants.
While serving warrants, detectives came across a home in the1500 block of West Marinette in Exeter. Detectives said they found and destroyed 376 plants.
A pound of marijuana sells for roughly $3,000 in California. However, the plants could be worth more in states where recreational use remains illegal, according to the U.S Drug Enforcement Agency.
Code compliance officers and detectives are planning similar large-scale operations in the future, deputies said.
