A marketing campaign to "Support Santa Cruz Cannabis" will kick off at 7 p.m. Sept. 13 at the Resource Center for Nonviolence, 612 Ocean St.
GreenTrade Santa Cruz, a coalition of local cannabis businesses, will present a vision for how Santa Cruz businesses can capture their share of an industry estimated at $5 billion to $10 billion when the legal market opens Jan. 2.
The county's new cannabis licensing manager, Robin Bolster-Grant, is expected to attend.
"Santa Cruz County is well positioned to lead the state into this new era." says Pat Malo, GreenTrade Santa Cruz executive director and host of the event. "Our regulatory process reflects our desire to create a sustainable, environmentally responsible and socially conscious cannabis trade, one that we can all take pride in."
The kickoff comes two weeks after the county's release of the draft environmental impact report at santacruzcounty.us/cannabiseir on commercial cannabis cultivation and manufacturing regulations. A presentation on the report is set for 6:30 p.m. Sept. 6 at the county governmental center, 701 Ocean St. Public comments are due Oct. 16.
County supervisors are expected to hear reports Sept. 12 on dispensary licensing, a proposed ordinance for processors, taxation issues and steps local businesses must take to apply for state licenses.
