Tuesday, the Sacramento City Council's law and legislation committee will consider an ordinance regarding testing labs and restrictions to the ways oil may be legally extracted from marijuana.
Randi Knott is the Director of Government Affairs for the City.
"You may have heard anecdotal stories unfortunately of people blowing themselves up to try to extract honey oil, which is kind of the slang for the cannabis oil in their homes," says Knott. "There are safe, non-volatile ways to extract cannabis oil and we will be restricting manufacturing businesses to those types of operations."
Knott says the full council will consider a change to the rules regarding cultivation and delivery of medical marijuana to patients.
"Right now delivery of marijuana -even to qualified patients- is prohibited. However, we know that it's happening. There's advertisements everywhere. So, rather continue turn a blind eye, we're going to lift that prohibition."
Knott says buying and selling marijuana for recreational use is also still prohibited, despite the passage of Proposition 64.
State and local rules likely won't be in place until 2018 that would allow legal sales of recreational marijuana.
