An effort to evict a business Thursday led investigators to a marijuana grow operation in Santa Ana, police said.
Orange County sheriff's deputies were directed to 1714 E. McFadden Ave. on Thursday, Oct. 12, to evict a business, but when they arrived they discovered a marijuana grow operation inside that included a "sophisticated honey oil lab system," Santa Ana Police Cpl. Anthony Bertagna said.
Deputies called Santa Ana police at 1 p.m. to follow up, Bertagna said. A hazardous materials team was sent to the site to first determine if it was safe and then to break down the lab, Bertagna said.
Police found about 200 marijuana plants in a grow operation behind a grocery market, with apparently some neglected and dying, he said.
No one has been arrested in connection with the case and the investigation is ongoing, Bertagna said.
