C99 Under 7 Band COBs Homebrew LEDs

Hi All,
My second ever Journal, for my future reference.

Two C99 and 2 purple trainwreck from Humboldt.
Interesting thing about the trainwreck is they are from one free (old) seed and the seed spit out two undersized seedlings. Took a while for it to germinate pretty freaky seeing two. One was super runty but planted it anyway.
Very slow to start and slow growing, they will be moved out of the tent as the C99's will take up all the space for flowering. (50X80cm footprint).
Started the seeds a few days before the new year.

Have been using a single 100W 7band COB with 2 CREE XML of around 6K until a week ago.
Added a custom LED chip I had made a number of years ago but never used.
This is where it gets a bit interesting.

It is a COB with 3 strings controlled separately.
They did not produce it as requested (as 5 separate strings and the red/blue strings spaced from each other).
What this means is there is 30Watts of blue on one side and 22Watts of RED on the other side.
With 6.3 Watts of IR bang in the middle.

Anyway added the lens'ed custom COB bang in the middle of the two C99.
After a day it looked like the plant getting the RED side was bigger
Let it run like this for 3 days and the plant getting the RED is heaps bigger.
Both plants should be seeing the same amount of IR.

Have swung the light around so that the smaller plant is getting the full dose of red.
Hope it may even out the plant before the lights are swapped out for two 100W 7band COB's which have switchable Blue /Red set of LEDS. (an additional 36 X 42mil blues or 36 X 45mil 660nm leds)
(40 odd watts of deep red.)

This grow will be similar to the first grow I put on line, in this case hope to flower with 14/10 using IR to kill off the Pfr, convert to Pr.

cheers

5 Days later and am back to somewhat balanced size.
Left c99 has mostly caught up. A few leaves were showing signs of heat, more likely because of the IR as tent was 26 to 28deg.
Though I had also changed the reservoir.
Lifted the light up a few inches, nothing got worse.

The custom COB is now off, so back to just the 100W COB with the two cree XML so it looks pretty white in the photo.
The surplus blue spectrum in this setup I hope will stop any more stretch that the IR and red promotes.
Hopefully by the weekend I'll have the 200W light polished and ready to hang.

Managed to get the 200w light completed a bit early.
IR added and finished the code.

And here it is running finally c99 first day under 200W - 420 Magazine Photo Gallery
At the 4 day mark last day of veg RED c99 - 420 Magazine Photo Gallery
At the 4 day mark Blue c99 - 420 Magazine Photo Gallery
Had it veging under blue in the hope of keeping it compact.
And today, day two of flowering at 14hours light with 5min of 730nm IR at the end and still using the blue.

So all going pretty well at this point, and really starting to consume the nutrient.
Plan to run flower nutrient as of tomorrow, been a week on the current mix. keeping it around 1000parts and PH has got down to 5.2, took a few days to bump it back to 5.9

Day 8. Really need to add some white light for photos.
Had some bugs in the light for a few days which had the IR looping on and off at night.
Fixed that a few days ago and while fixing that up found the light was set for 12hours light.
Only corrected the timing tonight. So first 8 days it was flowering with 12/12 with IR at the end of the "day"
Today is the first day of 14/10 hours.

Day 20, just before res change.
Added 200W white led for the pictures.
One more week of big bud, then onto overdrive.
They have not stretched like I expected. Need more IR me thinks.
Temps been good to a little high, don't think I'm running enough air flow. Need more c02
No carbon set up on the exhaust yet, still no need but it would mean uprated fan gets throw into the mix.
I'll be hosting "guests" end of march  which means the tent will have to come down.
Plan to switch light cycle to 8on and 10 off last two or 3 weeks. :scratchinghead: for a blistering finish.... maybe

Hope all is well in your world.

Is this grow still alive?

We would love to be updated with some pictures and info.

How about posting a 420 Strain Review?

If you need any help with posting photos, please read our Photo Gallery Tutorial.

I am moving this to Abandoned Journals until we get updates.

Sending you lots of love and positive energy.

Its now 2019 and i'm about to start yet another Journal, and I find this one I had forgotten all about.
No pictures of the end of the 2017 grow, but it did produce enough to cover me to early 2019 :-)
Glad I put it up as I'd forgotten all about the custom COB.
Anyway its more fun for me to build, so my next Journal is yet another unique setup.
