The Burnaby RCMP drug section now has a number of high-tech night vision binoculars, courtesy of the provincial civil forfeiture office.
According to Sgt. Scott Rintoul of the Burnaby RCMP drug section, seized assets from previous investigations are converted into cash and then the director of civil forfeiture makes payments to support eligible victims and crime prevention activities.
"This equipment will be invaluable to the drug section who frequently conducts night-time surveillance on drug dealers and marijuana grow operations," Rintoul said in a press release. "We are committed to tackling drug dealers and illegal marijuana growers in Burnaby. These callous criminals present a threat to the safety of law-abiding citizens. Being able to purchase equipment to catch these criminals with their own money is very satisfying and will undoubtedly assist in facilitating future seizures."
