Bud density & mold concern

Hi all!

I’m growing a couple autos. And they are doing exceptionally well. However, I have 3 or so weeks left. And the buds are getting so large everywhere, that the middle of the plant is very dense. Like a basketball size clump of buds. I have cut a whole bunch out of the middle.

Should I remove more? Or leave it be? I’m at 80 degrees and 45% humidity.

I'd say the odds of getting mold at 45% humidity are very low. Mold prefers a much more humid environment.

Mold needs high temps, high humidity, and stagnant air to grow. If you have decent air movement and are at 80 degrees and 45% humidity, I can't see it being an issue.

I don't think it would hurt to remove a few fan leaves from the middle clump. it'd help air flow in that area for sure. 45% humidity is great compared to what i was just dealing with and found no mold on harvest day. my humidity didn't really get below 50% the whole time in flower. when lights were off i had to use a heater in the room to keep the humidity down below 50%. it was a bit of a nightmare keeping it balanced. the temps in the end were warmer with lights off than with lights on LMAO.

Fan leave removal won’t really touch this issue. It’s literally a dense mass of buds, many inches thick. Without removal of some of the density, I am unable to affect the mass at all.

That being said. Once I got into it further. I found everything looks good. And no telltale signs of higher humidity on them. I’m quite surprised such dense buds are growing down there with no light!

There’s always bowl training, use something to pull those branches apart from one another. I like pieces of solid gauge wire or pipe cleaners.

I have rubber coated garden wire I used to LST throughout the grow. Especially seeing how I didn’t top them. But, because I’m 2-3 weeks from harvest. I am quite hesitant at this point to start pulling on branches down. Very quickly I’ll likely have to shore them up because of bud weight.

I used a long soft rubber thing and gently aerated the centre of each one, so things weren’t as compressed. It will have to do!

you can even pinch / bench / supercrop during flower without losing a second of growth. it's like they don't even feel it. but if you just keep an eye on it you'll be golden. so close to harvest time!

congratz btw, if the rest of the plants are like the middles you're gonna have a nice haul.

Thanks! Just a few weeks now!

FYI,

My gut feeling was correct. You CAN get mold at 45% humidity. I’ve just discovered tons of it. Air wasn’t able to properly circulate due to the density of the buds.

So to anyone thinking “should I be concerned?”. Don’t listen to others, and be concerned. Perhaps then you won’t be throwing out your colas!

Damn :( that sucks man. Condolences on your loss.
Surprising though. Id've told you not to worry aswell.
I got it once. Biggest single cola I've ever had from a mephisto Ripley's og, it was beautiful. Like a 2L bottle and I only managed to save about 1.5 Oz from the whole plant. It sucks mate but it happens to most of us at some point. :(

I had powder mildew on my last grow. I could have prevented it had I known what to do. There are a few things. Spraying with a dilution of apple vinegar is just one. What are you doing about it? I would strongly recommend bud washing. Use hydrogen peroxide dilution for the first bucket.

The buds are extremely dense on these ones. They feel like rocks if you squeeze them. I had to cut 2 of the 4 plants main colas. Along with a bunch of other spots I found throughout it. I went haywire and cleaned each plant up, so air passes through considerably better now. I also repositioned everything so they will take a beating with fans now. I’m willing to take a bit of windburn if I need to.

I am starting flush tomorrow!
