Dry well?

That's was the final straw for me and Cali. I chose my new location carefully ;)

Sorry you're in that position with the water.

May I make a suggestion? MULCH! Stop the precious water from evaporating from the soil surface and keep the soil cooler. Do it. Now. All over the garden and anything you water. If you need help in choosing materials to mulch with, I am happy to help. Some prefer green mulches, others brown or even a mix.

:Namaste:

Yes I must put mulch. I am trying to get free wood chips. You are right I must do it, now. The water issue is salt. There is a breach in the well letting in sea water... it sucks when the tide goes out and you loose water!. Since I have changed to creek/good water my plants have been doing much better. I wonder how much it would cost to rent a wood chipper?... hmmm

As you can see from the second picture I have all kinds of shit in there. In that pic are radishes, carrots, oinions, garlic, strawberries and tomatoes. I think I might just get some straw as it would distribute well this late in the game.

Thank you for stopping in

Dang. So need a new well drilled?? I don't see how you could line or case the well to stop the ocean.

In my experience it's a couple hundred per day for a midsized pro chipper rented at a big box store (if available) or a rental yard. A tip for you, get a DISC chipper if possible, rather than a drum chipper. Discs chip better, the drum tends to shred and make stringy crap. You can tell the difference between the two visually. Disc chippers have a huge flywheel/cutting disc inside, behind the feed roller. The shroud is maybe 6-8" in depth, and looks roundy, with the chute coming out the top. Drums have a bigger, more square/rectangular box to house the drum.

Well as the drought proceeds in this area I took Heirloom's advice and got mulch immediately. I opted for the cheapest quick way out and that was a bail of straw, $12.99 now I still gotta get some woodchips!

Thanks H

Cali's always got that water problem. Even tho the northern half has plenty of water, they have to send so much south. I use to live right by the Delta Mendota and the Calif aqueducts. And I have seen them empty. That's alot of SoCal's drinking water. Funny how all the water is still here, yet it sure can be stingy as to when mother nature gives it back. Keepem Green and wet

There are clouds so close I can see them but not a drop yet. Just a taste of rain for us but now that I have some straw it will last a day longer!

Any day without lugging jugs is a good one... I think I will leave that alone :cheesygrinsmiley:

Just came here to wish you all a Happy Independence day.

We need a new 1776 to take back our freedoms and maybe get a few more.

Don't let people take your rights from you... even if they lie and tell you it is for your own good.

I notice the plant pics need an update... working on it.

So what is this years pain in the ass?

Skeletonizers

These stealthy little bastards deposit their little horrors under leaves and they proceed to wipe the leaves and leave the veins (leaf skeleton) hence the name.

Spinosad all over the plant and under all leaves will slow them down
