Broken stem

So I was checkin on my plants, and discovered this =(

I attempted to splint it up, I trimmed off the dead tissue on either side of the break and this is how it looks now

think it'll heal up and continue to grow? I think it snapped cuz I had it tied down too tightly (LST), or I had taken off the ties from the lower part of the plant, left the top tied down and maybe it was too much pressure. If it won't heal and the top doesn't make it, can I just continue to grow the plant? wouldn't it be like topping, just a bit further down? The plants are 6-7 weeks old, I was going to let them grow all the way around the pots before I flowered them. Can you take clones before flowering? I know the plant is female cuz it has preflowers, which pisses me off that much more. Why couldn't the fucking male plant break instead

Re: Broken stem =(

Not sure that will make it bud. Looks a little necrotic around the break too. You can probably kiss that part good bye. The rest of the plant should recover ok if disease doesn't set in on the broken piece.

I cut the necrotic parts off. It's fresh tissue on fresh tissue for the most of the stem:bitingnails:

Re: Broken stem =(

I wrapped that copper wire around it as a kind of splint, wrapped a small amt of tape around the break to try to keep it from drying out, and tied it closer to the top to pull the gap closed. Here's hopin...

I went out and watered them, and one of the lowest branches is as big as the main top lol. I don't know how big they normally get, but I'm wondering if my having LST'd them made the branch so big, that even if I lose the top I'll have at least one cola that's a decent size. I may just take clones from it, and keep them under some CFLs or somethin until the others are done flowering.

yes the LSTing will make the side branches thicker.

See what I mean....lol the side branch is goin off to the right and it's about as thick as the main stem up where it broke, the main cola is goin left. Would that branch take over as the main cola, and make more side branches? So could I LST that branch to come back around the other direction? I was wanting to have the plants circle the pots so there are as many colas as I can get. If that side branch could substitute as a main cola and make its own branches that would be sweet...

Re: Broken stem =(

it should be okay till tomorrow. Recut the stem at a angle and put it into water immediately. Otherwise a bubble of air could enter the stem and block water uptake. Keep it further away from the light if possible. Strip off most of the lower down growth so that it doesn't have as much vegetation to support.

pretty much what I did, I took it into my room and I just have a 23w CFL over it. should I not have light on it?

Re: Broken stem =(

I normally have them under a 400w MH, and four 27w CFLs. Right now it's just under one 23w CFL and it's not too close to it, I've got it on my desk and I have a space heater to keep the room at a much more consistent temp (grow cab is in the garage and temp varies depending on outside temp from 65-80, usually 70-78 in the cab tho)
